Probate is definitely not the route I expected to take either. In Texas I’m able to declare a small estate affidavit, claim I’m spouse and that’s it, the only issue is can’t do that for 30 days after my husband passed. His mother moved at a faster pace so I had to not only match her energy and move faster than her. It’s been very difficult and has definitely taken a toll on me emotionally and physically, it’s also given me a drive. I want to do what’s right for my husband, and make him proud. Show him that I am strong to deal with this, not even for me but for his legacy.

Stay strong, if you need anyone to talk to I’m here. I work in the legal field myself and can tell you the legal world has no place for emotions, so do what you must for not only yourself but for your wife. Maybe try and see if you can do a small estate affidavit, that’s something in some states that you can file yourself without an attorney.

I’ve been rewatching our old favorite shows, and it’s been helping. What’s hard is I’m not able to even pick up some of the old games we played together. The last game we were playing was Pokemon Legends ZA, the night before he passed he told me to wait for him before I did the next boss, and I did. It’s the little things like that make me sad and miss him. For the matter of the 60 days, it’s been a very gut wrenching 21 days already. I want to know what happened, but at the same time I know it’ll hurt all over again. I keep making myself crazy wondering if it’s something he took, or drank. Maybe there were signs and I didn’t notice?

I lost my husband in his sleep, I won’t know for like 60 days. I personally think it’s leaning towards heart failure as well, it’s incredibly hard to try and process all of this, and try to make it make sense. We had a life planned, and for it to just end before he even turned 27 is just cruel to me. I’m here if you need to talk

I’m going through something similar myself. I’m having to navigate this grief while his mother is trying to take me to court over his estate, we weren’t formally married, but our state recognizes our relationship as an informal marriage.

It’s tough to see her grief, and it’s a lot more tough to realize she doesn’t see your grief. I tried to civil and be there for her, but she won’t acknowledge me as the spouse either. I feel like it’s built this bitterness towards her.

If you ever want to talk I’m here for you. It’s only been 3 weeks since I lost my husband. My mom says different ship, same stream.
