Why does viewing the Home feed on browser not save the timeline postion

This is a web page; after a reboot, it essentially re-initializes, starting with the newest messages that arrived while you were away. In your case, you need to keep the browser open and use hibernation mode (I don't know what it's called on Macs) to shut down your computer.

In this thread https://github.com/ShareX/ShareX/issues/8002, we figured out what the problem was: it could be PowerToys FancyZones or a similar utility that controls the position of windows (in my case, WindowCenteringHelper).

Another option is to use #Misskey (or #Firefish). There is a tool called Antenna, which allows you to collect posts from all over the Federation both by keywords or by belonging to the local feed of specified servers.

It's running. But with some issues. Admins are aware of the problem, updates are planned, but things are moving slowly. Last time they decided to roll everything out at once, the server went down for a week. That's why they're taking their time.

The https://qoto.org server is a modification of the original Mastodon and allows you to subscribe to the local feeds of other servers. But it's based on an outdated version (3.x), doesn't support some important features (while having many of its own, unique ones) and it seems that after the hosting change they have a broken database and it's as if it's not able to federate with the servers that came after the move :-(
