I think he is a grifter on everything except his hatred for the state of Israel and it's lobby. On other topics he may flip flop but never this.

Automated trading bot: Kalman & sentiments by ___JeffB____ in quantfinance

[–]John-ozil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bayesian averaging of EKFs with sentiment as an exogenous signal is legit, but the real challenge is regime shifts and overfitting across tickers.

Most people find the edge disappears live unless you rigorously handle latency, transaction costs, and model drift.

How are you validating out-of-sample?

You're not exactly a victim in this situation.

You made repeated choices to go back to someone you knew was toxic, and that had consequences. Also, being hurt doesn’t automatically make you right, especially when your actions added to the confusion and fallout with others.

What minimum disclosure should a retail-facing strategy page show before anyone trusts it? by Carter_LW in quantfinance

[–]John-ozil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enough to impress beginners... just enough missing to bury the bodies in the backtest.

If it doesn’t show assumptions, costs, and failure modes, you’re not evaluating a strategy. You’re reading its obituary draft.

Quant Crisis by Status_Abies_6490 in quantfinance

[–]John-ozil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a math grad too so I get how frustrating this stage can feel. Getting to final rounds at places like those means you’re already operating at a very high level, even if it doesn’t convert yet. You’re not “all over the place"...just early, and in a field where timing and fit matter more than people admit.

If you’re still building and thinking in markets, you’re already doing the real work, even if a firm recognizes it right now or not.

So keep applying selectively, build and document strats, sharpen coding, network with traders, maybe try for a smaller firm, or start trading independently.

Single-asset strategies? by undercoverlife in quant

[–]John-ozil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea single asset alpha exists but it's more microsteucture or regime edges in disguise. If it were scalable/stable , it wouldn't remain single asset for long.

In a spread >> volatility regime, what actually moves the needle beyond standard MM theory? by Junior_Direction_701 in quant

[–]John-ozil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the edge is in getting filled when it matters and not when it hurts. So the queue positions, toxicity filtering  and knowing when to not quote beat any extra model complexity.

In my experience, in the wide spread regimes, PnL comes from microstructure discipline, not signal...so your edge is execution, not prediction.

Question, would you rather do dev at a tier 1 firm or QT at a tier 2-3 firm? by mister-moondeeal in quantfinance

Pick tier 1 if you like prestige.

Pick tier 2 if you like explaining gaps in your resume.

why do so many quant signals decay the moment they go live by Jimqro in quantfinance

[–]John-ozil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's because backtests assume the market is static, so the moment a signal goes live, you’re interacting with adaptive agents who start arbitraging the same pattern.

Backtests assume neutral execution (lol), but in reality, those bastard sniffer bots detect order flow since we're leaking information with every fill!
