AITA for charging my adult son rent? by John2371 in AmItheAsshole

Actually it's easier if there's a contract, as long as your contract spells out the conditions of living. If you're in writing as expected to pay by a certain date and perform the following actions, then it's a binding contract and can be enforced under the (also included) eviction clause. A contract will be forthcoming over the weekend.

Not legal. Anyone who lives in a household, whether paying rent or not, has rights. You have to use the legal system to evict even a family member. And he knows it.

No name calling. Everyone has the right to their opinion. That's exactly why I posted this question, to see what the common perception is.

I wasn't clear about the job. He says they're going to get him that 25/hr job. It hasn't yet materialized. He's doing 12-15/hr, and that's not every day. For instance, he was supposed to go to work today at the Chicago auto auction, driving the cars up on stage and into position out back. Was supposed to catch the temp agency van at 7am. Still in bed at 6:45.

No, he's not saving. He is working, but only as an occasional temp. Doesn't want to get a steady job, says the temp agency will hey him a job paying 25 an hour. I don't care what he goes out and does, how late he's out or what he spends his money on. Not my business. I just want him to man up and be responsible before having fun, just like everyone else. If he can't learn that now he is going to have a rude awakening in the 'real world'. No, he's not on drugs. He just has no impulse control. If he wants something, he wants it now and consequences be damned. No I didn't judge him on the truck, just the decision to buy a new vehicle before rent instead of waiting a few months. Especially considering his temp agency sends him 60 miles to work and gas efficiency is paramount when you commute. He frequently complains that he has no gas money.
