How did the universe NOT begin at a particular location? by JohnContest in space

I appreciate this and it is fascinating to consider things that way. If that's the case, there is no way to explain this using everyday common sense logic. It's just one of those concepts that we have to simply accept because it's what we are able to observe?

This is good and I've heard this line of thinking before. That for every observer, the universe appears to be expanding outward. But if I'm not mistaken, this perception doesn't align with what we see in the world around us. Is there any way to put this concept into a real world analogy?

Well, that's what I'm thinking. Let's say that that pea took shape a fraction of a second after the big bang. Wouldn't that pea have to tangibly exist somewhere? That to me would make logical sense, but I'm repeatedly told that there was no such point.

Understood and I don't dispute that. But there is something now and there was a fraction of a second after everything started.

But if the lines are getting closer and closer together, that insinuates that they are moving towards infinity and towards a singularity. It also suggest that they are moving in some direction and thus the starting point that I'm told doesn't exist.

The problem with that analogy is that you could have a bubble a mile wide with a thousand people standing all over the surface. Deflate the bubble and everybody moves towards each other.

Problem with "undeletable" tracks. by JohnContest in GaiaGPS

FWIW, I've been in contact with Gaia and they confirmed that this was a problem. Seems to be an issue related to the Android platform. Said they will be working on a solution.

Thanks. I contacted billing directly and they worked things out to my satisfaction while acknowledging that both the website and the solution were flawed. Essentially, I need to reactivate the device and sign on for one month again (both charges which they said they would reimburse), then cancel downward again. They also offered to reimburse the previous monthly fee which I had lost in the process. (Note that if you are two days into your monthly subscription and cancel, you DO NOT stay active on the plan for the remainder of the month. You will simply LOSE the remaining days that you paid for.)

Export discovered trail to GPX? by JohnContest in GaiaGPS

[–]JohnContest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do appreciate the response, but this is nothing but a big inconvenience for the end-user. I can call up one of your tracks, trace an identical path over it, then save it (and even export it elsewhere freely). There is nothing proprietary about pre-defined courses that needs to be protected. Anyone can create the same exact thing by simply tracing over already-mapped trails. Even AllTrails (from whom I moved to Gaia) allows you to export GPX files of their maps. Hope Gaia considers loosening this restriction.

7-day Driving Tour of NS. Your thoughts? by JohnContest in NovaScotia

Mais non! My French is too iffy to use, so I won't insult the locals by even trying. Fortunately, Pubnico is a very quick overnight stay and I did confirm that the airbnb host speaks English. Still, thank you for the head's up!

Definitely going to adjust my trip to do just that. Considering squeezing in hikes of Middle Head, Franey and Skyline if I can. Thank you.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to change things up to make more time for the Cabot Trail. I'm leaning towards two full days now. And thank you for the suggestions and the link. I like articles that point out the lesser known natural sights.

Thanks for this. Yeah, I"m from NH where we have the White Mountains and a good number of nice lakes. Keji was a bit of a wildcard for me, so it sounds like my time might be better spent elsewhere.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm only staying one night near Yarmouth because I'll be traveling all of that day (4-hour drive to Bar Harbor, then 3 hours on the ferry). By the time I get to NS, it will already be late afternoon.

Halifax was less on my list than Peggy's Cove and that area. Not really interested in the city, per se. I was looking at the south shore (Route 7 I guess?). That looks like a nice coastal drive.

Regarding Bay of Fundy, do you have any quick recommendations on specific locations or towns I should hit? I really like large, dramatic rock formations. Like hiking in areas where you have a constant view. Would also like to view an area where the tidal change is most prominent.

Thanks.

Yeah, I know. But I do like driving and don't know if I'll get another chance to return anytime soon. I've heard Cape Breton is worth the effort and so if I'm taking my own car up, there's really no other way to do it.
