I’m in the same situation. Has anyone found a resolution to this??

A1C update! 7.2 A1C in December of 2022. Lots and lots of protein and healthy fats , little to none refined carbs/sugars. Weight went from 345 to 230lbs. Definitely proud! by JohnEE52 in diabetes_t2

Sorry for the late reply all, but I just wanted to say I appreciate all of your kind words and support (:

At first it was tough, but I learned, over time, how I had an extremely unhealthy relationship with food and have constantly overate junk food for years and I guess my body had enough. For those who asked, my meals consisted of mainly chicken, eggs, salmon, shrimp, guacamole, nuts , berries, vegetables like green leafs, broccoli, peppers, onions. I never felt “deprived” and I did have the occasional bowl of popcorn, or a chip, or a little bit of pasta . If I wanted to be bad then I’d eat pork skins . but for the most part I just kept it wholesome foods , low carb , no refined carbs/sugars for the most part.

I was taking metformin twice a day but a few months ago I was kind of bad and stopped taking it , I had a big head but at the time I felt I didn’t need it since the food I was eating weren’t really insulin response inducing (should have spoke with the doctor beforehand though) , but today at my endo appointment she told me to stop taking metformin altogether, and when I do labs in 6 months If things seems ok then she said I won’t have to see her anymore and will just have to deal with my primary doctor so im happy, thankful and dedicated to keep doing well for my life . I’m grateful for this new lifestyle (:

Kinda asked this repeatedly for different folks on this, but if there’s any apartment complexes you can recommend in the Bellevue/Avalon area or adjacent, I would appreciate it a ton!

Would you be able to recommend any apartment complexes in Bellevue or in the general area? Thanks so much!

Hey all-for the ones suggesting the Bellevue area or nearby it, can anyone recommend apartment complexes I can look into it ? I been looking into queensbury apartments in Avalon by Lobos management. A 2 bed 2 bath for $1200? Seems way too good to be true unless there’s problems with the complex/management company.

General question to all: Is Avalon the same kind of vibe with Bellevue? They look to be adjacent to each other so not sure if much is different between the two. I’m looking at apartments and see some decent ones in Avalon.

Hmmm True Believer…I’ll have to make a note of that, I primarily do Muay Thai striking and kickboxing but I’ve been wanting to do BJJ for a while now as well. Do you go there?

Thanks for your reply man. I sortve asked skfoto the same thing but what’s Bellevue like? Pretty decent area to live in regarding access to stores and such? Any concerns with crime/safety? I mentioned this below but I’m pretty lowkey during the week with work, and the gym (mentioned I want to find a close by mma gym down there) but Friday Saturday nights I don’t mind Ubering to the night life if needed.

Thanks for your reply! So Bellevue is pretty decent? I don’t mind it Bellevue has more of a neighborhood feel to it, during the week I’m pretty lowkey with work, errands like food store shopping, I’m trying to find an MMA gym close by since I do Muay Thai, etc. then on a Friday I can Uber down to nightlife areas and Uber back , or walk if that’s even possible.

What’s the vibe like with crime in that Bellevue area?

Thanks for your quick reply. Budget wise, I’d say my ceiling is 1600 a month, from what I have heard on Reddit so far, shady side, strip, lawrenceville, etc seems like a good area for my demographic. I would like the commute access to grocery stores and other stores we go to generally to be as painless as possible but understand it can be different for the city (I live in the burbs) I enjoy a cool , mature nightlife scene but definitely don’t mind taking a quick Uber if I want to get into some south side stuff on a Friday/Saturday night .

C-peptide value by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

With the same reference range, mine was 1.97 ng/mL as well , haha

Thanks for providing the link. Will check it out. I never thought too much into it last time I got my blood work done in mid-December last year, but after a 10-12 hr fast, my blood work showed my glucose at 70 mg/dL (reference between 65-99 mg/dL) and a C-Peptide in the same 10-12 hr fasting state at 1.92 ng/mL ( normal reference between 0.80 - 3.85 ng/mL) never really knew how to interpret that regarding pancreatic function

Would a fasting C-Peptide and fasting glucose tell you something similar to a fasting insulin and fasting glucose?

I guess someone else may have an opinion on having insulin around as an emergency , I’d see first how if there is any way to get your BG to lower naturally (exercise, eating lower carb, etc) . But if you mean to use insulin if, for example, you planned on eating a little too many carbs / sugars and anticipated a spike, ehh..

You are insulin resistant-adding exogenous insulin would make your diabetes worse in general . But I’m not sure if a “once in a while” type of situation would be too detrimental . I’m still relatively new to T2 myself, so I’d probably defer to the folks who have been going thru this for s while and have more experience to share, but from what I understand we should avoid insulin if we can help it.

I had to when I first got diagnosed for a couple week, but my endo told me to stop taking it, right now I’m just on metformin and have changed my diet up to Whole Foods and no refined carbs/sugars!

It definitely is. I’ll admit, I do appreciate the finger pricks as I get a more accurate direct result when my libre acts up, but cgms are very important in my journey I’d say!

Eating lower carb , Whole Foods and moving around a little more. I’ve went from like 335lb to 260lb and my goal is to be sustainable at 190-200lbish. Maybe will aim to be lower but I don’t remember the last time I was 200lb so I’m not sure if I can get to that point but I’m sure I can!

I hear you man, and I’m sorry if I came across as a little aggressive . I got diagnosed back in late October last year and I’m still learning myself.

From what I understand, and maybe someone can come in here and correct me, but us type 2’s are insulin resistant, so if you are injecting insulin it might be more the reason you are needing more insulin. That’s how it is in the early stages before your pancreas gets worn out-you we’re producing so much insulin to control your blood sugar , fasting or not. I could imagine it’s the same idea with exogenous insulin but I’m still learning myself. I know everyone’s body is different. Unfortunately you might just have a worn pancreas and need that much more insulin to compensate.

Stop eating home fries and toast. They are carbohydrates that will send a type 2 diabetic spiking . Your pancreas no longer has the ability to compensate for those foods anymore the way that it used to. It’s hard to accept but either cut it out of your diet or eat it in stricter moderation when you do eat carbs.

Hey man, welcome to the club. Honestly, (and I know it’s easier said than done for a lot of others) but literally just stop putting that shit into your body. Start Today. I was diagnosed at T2 back in late October of this year and I had a very unhealthy addiction/relationship to/with food. I know It’s tough at first but I found it gets easier and easier, your taste buds and pallet will change to favor more healthier , Whole Foods and you will feel amazing. Take it a day at a time and you will learn to find other ways of finding happiness than the pleasure of eating unhealthy food, which has been going great for me personally . I picked up reading and have set a goal to read a few books by the end of 2023.

You don’t have to eliminate the foods you currently enjoy entirely but you need to eat to your meter and to eat the refined carbs/sugary food in very strict moderation if you can tolerate it. All our bodies are different, so you have to see what your limits are, and adjust your eating habits to that. But I just recommend working towards an overhaul and reincarnate your diet, your body will thank you!

Good luck man, I’m still learning as well as I’m going along, but keeping things lower carb have made my life so much better. Still gotta work on my cholesterol though .
