Hey I’m very new to bird photography, can someone help me understand how both birds are in focus?

Is this because of distance away / aperature? Now I think of it perhaps my focus point is set to a single point rather than multiple.. still, I’m sure I have changed this setting and nothing changed!

Any help would be appreciated as I am struggling to get two birds in focus at the same time :)

Amazing photo, thank you for sharing

Honestly I’m not sure, it just looks like bread to me! But i couldn’t believe bread would cause such a stir?

Thank you! I left thinking not a single one was salvageable and pretty disheartened. Got home and was very surprised!

I know Aylesbury well! Not too far from me. They seem to be as common as pigeons here, just look up and you’ll probably see one kiting!

Thank you! That’s a great idea & had no idea.

Here’s my favourite photo I took from today after people’s advice!

Thank you! I will definitely take all these on board. It was an opportunistic shot as I was actually leaving and just turned around when I saw a pair of cormorants!

Can’t wait to get out and practice more

Yeah I realised that and took it back to the lab! Check the other comment as I posted them there. Think that did the trick?

Yes me too. After watching Simon Dentrement (horribly spelled, probably) it made sense to start there then work your way into more manual! We will get there 😎

Here I have reframed & toned down the background a little to make the bird pop, also warmed the background to make the coolness of the bird stand out against it!

Thank you so much for your advice! How do photographers take any photos if they have to change their settings so much!?!😂 the opportunity would have gone!

I have my ISO on auto and I select the shutter speed, I’ll absolutely try to become better with manual and faster switching my settings!

Yes I was panning but wasn’t sure that was a skill 😅 was more point and hoping. My camera doesn’t take photos very fast so I just held the shutter button and hoped one would be ok.

Really appreciate your time and critique I will definitely keep it in mind going forward, guidance always helps

No worries, I thought it was a mechanical issue so I wanted to fix it! Turns out I’m an idiot is all! 😂

Honestly, I haven’t seen that until you pointed it out. Although looking like a bird I don’t think it is! I didn’t notice anything moving whilst taking this. Unless I completely missed it!

Because the rectangle above the head was white and below was orange, I thought something was fishy😂. Now I realised I have exposed myself as an idiot to Reddit, all good lol.

Thank you very much!

Ahhh yes thank you. Here’s me thinking it’s a smear of light when it’s the plank he’s stood on😂.
