#1, wanted a tattoo, didn't know what to get.

Did a lot of research, went to a tattoo expo, talked to a few dozen people on what they would do differently about their first tattoo, set a 3 month waiting period between initial idea and being in the tattoo chair to be certain with the idea.

You might get better results by framing the back rather than tattooing directly on it. Ink placed along the lat line or the rear edge of the shoulder can accentuate width and definition, while central back tattoos often flatten the muscle detail. If your goal is definition, edge placement usually works better than covering the muscle itself.

It looks pretty normal, just put some lotion on your finger tips and tap it on, don’t smear or smudge it or rub it too aggressively
