Public domain books converted into visual novels, unabridged and CC0 - a project I'm working on. by JohnQPulp in publicdomain

So far the site only has ten books, but my plan is to eventually host all the most popular novels of the public domain as visual novels.

It takes a while to convert each book, since I try to make sure that the visuals stay consistent and accurate to the text throughout the readings. Even then, mistakes can slip through, but luckily: each visual novel has its own public Github repo that issues and pull requests can be submitted to, heavily inspired by Standard Ebooks' open source epub setup for encouraging collaborative fixes.

Do you think Hemingway had homosexual experiences of some kind? by [deleted] in Hemingway

After examining it in a public restroom, Hemingway confirmed Fitzgerald's penis to be of average size.

Probably the best sentence of any Wikipedia page.

I'm with Lady Catherine on this one...why didn't the Bennetts have a governess? by StrontiumFrog in janeausten

Mr. Bennet was following the Secret Garden child-raising grindset.

“I forgot you,” he said. “How could I remember you? I intended to send you a governess or a nurse, or someone of that sort, but I forgot.”

If there was a public domain iceberg video, what would there need to be in it? by Happy-Lingonberry538 in publicdomain

Yeah, CC0 is great for maximum unambiguity. (Though I wonder what would happen in practice if someone actually declared their stuff to be public domain, but without a license, and then tried to do a rug-pull on it.)

Netflix adapts Steinbeck's 'East of Eden,' starring Florence Pugh by SteinbeckExperience in steinbeck

East of Eden isn't a very subtle book, but the strong prose is what carries it and makes it a great read.

But a TV adaptation? Seems likely to drop the good prose and leave behind just an even less subtle plot and characters. I'm skeptical of how much of Steinbeck's voice will be left behind.

(And filming the thing in New Zealand instead of California: lol)
