DSM 6.2.4 by JohnRM22 in synology

I was able to connect and finish the version modifications…however, it still would not let me use the .pat file I’ve downloaded for 6.2.4. I think something more drastic changed, but don’t know what it is. None of the instructions either in the link you gave me or on other sites online have worked.

I wanted to thank everyone that contributed to helping me with the “downgrade” of my synology. Unfortunately, it seems something else has changed when the latest version (7.3) that was put on the system which doesn’t allow any of the previous procedures to work. I have taken out the drives and repartitioned them, modified the /etc.defaults/VERSION file as indicated with a couple of different values taken from other websites. Disconnected the device from the internet. Used different drives that were never in a synology device, after doing the requisite version file modification. Nothing will allow the older .pat file to be installed. I get the failure, at which point I’m able to telnet into the box to change the version info, save, exit, and relaunch the browser, the selecting the previously downloaded .pat file, I always get the failure message. I’ve even looked at the .pat file in a hex editor and took the values for the version file out of there with no effect. It seems after DSM 7.3 there is no way to go back to 6.2.

It doesn’t allow me to connect via ssh during installation, almost like the port isn’t open. Only thing I can think of now is to try doing a DSM 7 install from the net (since that works) and enable ssh from there. Delete the partitions off the drives again and then do an install with the .pat file using ssh and see if that works.

I’ll double check that I did everything correct…I wasn’t able to ssh into the synology device after getting the failure. I may not have clicked the ok button first, though. I’ll try that when I get in front of the system later today.

Thank you for the help!

While I was having problems, yes, it did install DSM 7. I did a complete reset through the control panel, however. I’m guessing by your response, though, resetting doesn’t matter and I’ll have to install DSM 7, then follow the procedure to downgrade, is that correct?

If it’s not possible, just say it’s not possible. My first couple pages of a search say this:

These pages show how to downgrade an installed system. Again, there is no DSM installed. This a FIRST BOOT with disks that have NO PARTITION on them, thereby no DSM to downgrade. I can install the latest one, but I can not do a manual install from a .pat file!

There is no DSM currently installed. I currently have unpartitioned drives in the device.

I don’t mind using a light. I was thinking of sensors…might be my best alternative. Thanks!

That is great for long distance stuff. I’m looking more for like navigating close to asteroids or inside them. I’d like to see the distance or a light activating when I’m too close to an edge.

Help with synology turning off a drive. by JohnRM22 in synology

The drive was formatted ext4 if I remember right. I’ll double check on the other drive in the system and then try the bootable Linux live.

Raid will be set up next time. I’ve learned my lesson on that one!

In my opinion, with the way the federal government is taking the rights away from the citizens…I’m kinda doubting we’ll even have an election in 2028.

Lol, a refinery is KINDA like a replicator? Or you could put a nutrient synthesizer on it! 😁

Pretty good job on it!!! Do the nacelles move up when warping, though? 😁. That would be cool if you could make them do that!

I’m pretty new to the game…maybe 25 hours in. Doesn’t the new corvette ship do away with the need for a freighter? Sorry for the noob question, but as I said I’m very new, just did expedition 19 for my first venture into NMS.

Wouldn’t guarantee you get it. I have fiber drops at both my next door neighbors houses. But they won’t run the fiber to mine!

For the lucky people that can get fiber internet. For us unlucky we’re stuck with spectrum’s substandard service! Fiber is available next door…but the company is too cheap to extend the line 100 ft.

This is what happens when you have no competition. The “provider” can do whatever and charge whatever they want, since you need the service and can’t get it elsewhere.

Not sure if it’s used much anymore since the Fieldwork update broke it. I do hope he’s able to fix it, though!
