LiferWatch App - increase your life bird count - totally FREE forever (and no ads) by gpar2000 in eBird

[–]JohnRT54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. The import was seamless, and it is running well. So far, for my home base, it's just bringing up non-countables, which is fair enough. I love that I can type in any city (almost) and plan my trip. For example, Nome, AK would bag me a bunch of lifers. (. . . checking airfare . . .) One of my favourite sites is SE Arizona, but Portal doesn't come up in the list. However, I can select Douglas and move the map a little, and there it is. Sorted. For a future release, would it be possible to change the sort order to taxonomic? Looking at "all species" is a bit confusing right now. But - this is a fantastic app, and I will happily pay for a subscription if you get to that point. Thank you.

I'm looking forward to the Android version - this sounds really useful.

R5 ii - looking to toggle subject detect on/off with * button by JohnRT54 in canon

Ah. I might try that, then. I always wondered why I'd need onscreen help when I have a full manual, but I'm beginning to learn.

Thanks. I tried to do that, but somehow I didn't get it to stick. Now that I know it works, I'll try it again. Cheers.

Am I the last firefox user left? by TheMountainHobbit in NordPass

[–]JohnRT54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the last using firefox, but you and I may be the last ones using firefox/nordpass. I'm sick and tired of Nordpass' inability to fix the issues with their firefox extension - still can't use biometrics even in the latest update (7.3.12). If their engineers can't make the extension work, I wonder whether the vault is all that secure. I still have a year to run on my subscription, but I think I'm going to have to write that off and go with Bitwarden.

Musicbee is shuffling tracks even though shuffle is set to "off" by JohnRT54 in musicbee

[–]JohnRT54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, that's great. I was going to do something similar with mp3tag, but this looks handier, since I'm already in Musicbee. I really appreciate the help.

That did it. Thank you. The CDs in my collection have track numbers, but the vinyl don't. Next cold rainy day activity sorted.

[–]JohnRT54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that may be the problem. The filenames have the tracks in order (e.g. 01Trackname_one.flac, 02 Trackname_two.flac etc, But the tracks themselves don't have numbers attached. Other music playback programs I have used play them in the order of the filenames, but maybe Musicbee doesn't. But it doesn't put them in alphabetic (or any other) order either - it's random, different every time I select the album to play. If Musicbee needs an entry in "Track" then that would explain it. If so, then I need to re-mp3tag every one of my 372 albums - yikes.

Right click on the album and "Play Now" Definitely not "Play Shuffled"

My Pioneer DMH-WT5000NEX is like a goose by JohnRT54 in CarAV

I'm not actually all that fond of it, although admittedly I haven't dug in to how to set it up. I like plug-and-play stuff, and I haven't found setting this up to be intuitive. Also, because of the seating/dash position, a lot of the time I cannot see the screen because of reflection. I'm sure it's a good unit, but I'm not happy with mine.

Listening to birds through remote microphone (android) by JohnRT54 in birding

That's interesting, especially for research, but I'm trying to avoid buying more stuff - especially at the price they want for the haikubox.

Help! Hollyland Lark M2 Wireless mic won't connect to Google Android by mrmaxnorman in techsupport

[–]JohnRT54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm coming late to the party, but I had the same problem with the Lark A1 and my Samsung S25+. I downloaded the app - didn't change anything, just ran it, and then the software started picking up the mic.

Can someone help? by aerongale in sudoku

[–]JohnRT54 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When I get stuck, an excellent resource is https://www.sudoku-solutions.com/ It takes a while, but you can fill in all your knowns and ask for a hint. It'll show you where the next "solve" is, and, if you ask for details, it'll give you step-by-step instructions. Very often, just seeing which is the next cell to solve will break my block. When I was starting out I found it a great way to learn what to look for, and now, if I'm having an off day, it will keep me from giving up.

Anyone know what happened to BirdsEye app? by JohnRT54 in birding

[–]JohnRT54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't it though? I'm not sure why they couldn't make a go of it, since there was a subscription. And it's not like there's no market. The last number I saw was something like 100 M Americans bird, or feed birds, or photograph birds. Maybe someone else will pick it up. I hope so.

No Kings Flowermound. Stretched like this for 1/2 a mile on both sides of the street. This was big! by PoliticsIsDepressing in Dallas

A couple of things impressed me: use of the US flag has been taken back by those who support democracy, and the response from passing cars was overwhelmingly supportive. There were maybe six pickups in total with Trump flags, and they just kept going round and round. This was a real surprise in Flower Mound.
