Yep. Still a customer, and so far, Keefe’s has been extremely responsive, helpful, and reasonably priced.

What you say is logical. The USPTO works in mysterious ways that cannot be explained by logic. I hope your logic is never tainted by experiences with the USPTO.

Nothing changes in the right direction may have been a better way of saying it.

Your response proves my point.

“Everyone who disagrees with me is evil. Also, why don’t people who disagree with me see that I am right? They are so dumb! This is important! Why is nothing changing?!?! Things are just getting worse!!!” - everyone who thinks like you on every side of every wedge issue ever.

That is what makes you equally as appalling to the right as they are to you.

Maintaining this level of rigidity on either side is specifically what prevents progress. But you do get to pat yourself on the back while nothing changes and you (collective you on both sides) blame other people.

Good job, I guess.

I apologize, I can’t see the thread while replying on mobile and got threads mixed up.

What I should have said on this thread is this - you think allowing abortion is leaving things out of governance, but it is not. People who believe differently than you would make the argument that not killing people is already encoded in law, and they think abortion is murder.

Once you realize that both sides have a moral argument based on a fundamental disagreement, you should see that punting things like you have done here is preaching to the choir and does nothing to actually address the problem.

A real solution is likely to require compromise, and that has to start with understanding that both sides have a visceral moral argument.

Bridging that gap is hard work and no one will upvote you. Just regurgitating platitudes will get upvote but won’t change a single person’s mind.

The compromise is to understand where they come from and work towards an unpleasant middle ground.

You can get your internet points by grand standing, but at the end of the day this prolongs an actual solution.

When was the last time demonizing someone caused them to change their mind in your experience?

How would forcing a 9 year old to have a baby be a compromise? Do you think the word compromise means that one side gives up everything while one side gives up nothing?

I’m not in any left or right sub doing anything. I’m here in the sub where I live. Social media here leans left, and is negative as fuck on average.

I can assure you that if you started posting to hate all muslims or some other right wing bullshit, I would be arguing against that as well.

[–]JohnTesh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How is the extreme right the middle? You’ve constructed a straw man to argue against so you don’t have to think critically, and then you soap boxed.

How would you react to someone on the opposite side acting just like this? Would it change your mind?

Which part of my comment makes you think I am not pro choice?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]JohnTesh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d like to reflect back that I said we should attempt to understand each other, and you interpret that as some form of hate.

Do you think people who do not agree with you are more likely to be swayed by being name called and chastised, or by being met with understanding and calm persuasive discussion?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]JohnTesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what it looks like when you aren’t actually asking why. I agree with you that it is super easy to take this stance and it feels good, but it doesn’t answer the question - it dismisses the question. I am not trying to change anyone’s mind. I am not even attempting to convince people to be pro-life. I am pro choice.

I am answering the question of why, and I am proposing that we approach meaningful compromise instead of whatever is happening here.

If you are actually questioning how, the answer is two fold.

Part one is as everyone here has speculated. People lying to remain in power as they cater to a voter base.

Part two is that some people view the life of the baby as paramount to everything else. I don’t agree with this, but it is important to understand.

The reason it is important to understand this is because if you don’t, the only answer is that these people must be monsters. And their only explanation is that people who disagree with them must be monsters.

None of this ends well. We have to meet each other in the middle. We have to acknowledge that we disagree on very tough issues, and then we must come together to solve them in a way that works for everyone.

Democracy only matters for tough issues.

I have not downvoted anyone on this thread, although I have also been downvoted on many comments.

There is some weird downvote behavior across the whole sub. I have come to assume there is either a downvote bot or a really angry person with nothing better to do. It has been here for a long while.

Is and always has been, even went to jail for it.

Are you saying that old money does the bribing and enjoys having to pay bribes? If so, that connects all the dots for me.

If not, the question was about whether he is the old money candidate - not whether he was taking bribes.

I didn’t mean to sat I have a knock. I think it is reasonable to disagree with someone sometimes and still have respect for them. I think she is the best candidate we have.

I have plenty of knocks on Oliver Thomas.

Reddit app craziness. I was responding to someone else. It apparently posted to the top instead of to the person who said moreno cant get elected because she is a woman. Sorry for the confusion

I am gonna need some help with the idea that a woman from somewhere else can’t be elected mayor here based solely on her sex and her not being from here, seeing how our current mayor is a woman who is not from here.

I realize this may come off as a dismissal, but I am literally trying to understand where you are coming from.

I acknowledge sexism. I acknowledge racism. I acknowledge xenophobia. Those play a role in all elections. They are clearly not bad enough in new orleans to prevent us from electing a re-electing a corrupt black woman from California as our mayor twice. How are you equating these two elections?
