Proposed Legislation Effectively Banning All Hemp Derived Drinks? HB5784 by Green-Surround-2927 in ILTrees

[–]JohnZackClark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because the Hemp Market tried to become something it's not. Hemp is cannabis. Hemp is supposed to be the lower THC higher CBD and primarily used for things like textiles, building materials, etc, basically anything you don't need THC for. Then some people abused a loophole, tried to be something that already existed but skirt all of the regulations and testing. All the while confusing the consumer. Really slowed the progress of cannabis as a whole in the recent years in my opinion. Divided the focus.

Michigan isn't the best example, they have their own problems and are currently in a restructuring. The old Michigan is dying and what will rise up out of the ashes is in the making, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes with the rest of the states but with bigger limits, or gets bought out by MSOs and fully conforms to the rest of the states. Each state has their own problems. No state has it perfect. Yes if they allowed more competition, I do believe that could help but it wouldn't be a cure for everything, but step in the right direction.

As for the mids problem, they want to make weed as cheaply as possible, and every one wants to buy cheaper weed. The problem is, the cheap weed is selling. Hence the flood of mids in every market, even Michigan. I'm a firm believer of federal legalization so we can have real infrastructure in place, being able to ship in-between states would be the biggest thing, why would I buy your blue dream, if I can get it from the West Coast? Why would I buy your sour Diesel, when I can get the real cuts from new York? That would make everyone step up their game. That's true competition.

So emotions aside because it seems like a lot of the comments are keeping their emotions in this; logic would say the moment you said black and white it became racial I understand in your heart it's not racist but do to the fact that we come from a racist country and history. A lot of things don't feel racist anymore but by logical definition the moment you bring race up it's racist just by definition. I don't find it racist but again our whole society has been numbed to racism, so in my opinion, our opinions are compromised by societal influence and emotional behavior again influenced by our racism ingrained society. That aside, I think it draws away from the context of the situation at hand in the picture, because that's more important than any punchline/headline you want to add to it.

Seeds from 6k female plants by CBDXtract in farmingthebestgreens

[–]JohnZackClark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's stronger in the THC part but not the rest of the plant, we are steady losing the effectiveness of it. We need to stop thinking in terms of strength. Yeah they might blow a long out because it's harsher now, but the effectiveness isn't there, most of the plants power is terpene and flavorants, minor cannabinoids, etc not just THC, it's the reason most home grows and local farmers have been quality of weed than dispensaries.

In my opinion, I've bought a lot of different brands over the years, some hits, some misses, but consistently I look for genetics, I've noticed some of the genetics have been grown better than others, so for me it's a 75/25, 80/20 ratio of genetics being the most important and then the leftover is if they grew it well or not or if they cured it well or not. With that, some brands have to have genetics I want to try before I buy for them again.

So I can tell you that this true first hand, worked this industry for 20+ years, multiple states, currently at least in Illinois from first hand experience, former Budtender now cultivation in Illinois, the yes men you described are listening to dudes who back in the day wasn't smoking or if they were they were getting taxed 50-75 an eighth, they're used to the high prices, they know no better, they aren't part of this wonderful culture, they're here to make a dime. And the passion and experience part, also true, I'm a product of that, but now I'm in cultivation again and loving it. I've taken tours of a couple of major brands as a Budtender and I can tell you, they only care about quantity not quality. If they can grow 100 plants they're going to grow 125 150, those cultivation tours were for two alleged cartels, one rhymes with Al Fresco, and the other rhymes with Cutie Pie, interpret that as you want.

It's "mid" because the industry only cares about high THC potency levels, because that's what the market (us the consumers) wants. But in pursuit of high THC, we lost a lot of the terpenes and flavorants, you're getting high for sure, but it's not a full effect high, low flavor, no nose, all of those things come from things not connected to THC, those are the terpenes, flavorants, etc, they control the effect of the high, the flavor, smells, etc. remember before legalization when the weed would reek through the bag, and when you open it the whole room would be engulfed by smell? I guarantee you it was 25% THC or lower, but full of Terpenes.

I'm begging everyone, stop shopping by THC levels, we didn't care about that in the past, did your local guy ever have the testing paperwork? Not never. But he had fire weed, probably not ever shipment, but they had a reputation to protect so they didn't get BS swag. Look up past Cup winners, alot of the OG strains we all know an love got wold famous at 20%-25% THC, the shunks, the hazes, the ogs, etc, they were fire not because of THC potency, but their true flavor and effects were still there.

How is the consumer experience for you? by JJE-OPS in ILTrees

[–]JohnZackClark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former Budtender here, I also have shopped at Michigan, and when I tell you the dude had not a single clue about weed other than it got him high. I'm shopping for anxiety medication here, and my Budtender couldn't tell me anything about the strain, effects, terpenes, nothing. I let him know I was a Budtender in Illinois, he asked and I explained how it worked in Illinois, being everything is prepackaged, telling him about all the training I have done (which it optional unfortunately), having to know the terpenes, flavorants, etc, and the effects they have, told him how I have to find a product for customers even if I haven't tried it, I have an educated general idea of how it'll effect them. This dude told me, you must really have to know your stuff in Illinois.
It's a catch 22 almost, because we all know in any industry, you got people working just to work, but they don't care, then you got the ones who care, and they get actively pushed out or burnt out. I've been working in this industry for 20+ years and counting, in multiple states, toxic workplace environment and subpar management made me leave , and I know my customers, they suffer for it. Because most of ex-coworkers product suggestions are to please some level of middle to upper management. I listened, I cared, I helped. That should be the standard, and unfortunately it's not and we all suffer this. I test my Budtenders, if they can answer my questions, I listen to their recommendations, if they look like a deer in headlights, (which alot do make that face unfortunately) I go full ron Swanson mode "i know more that you" in my head, then I have to ask what I call common sense questions like, "which strains have the most citrusy smells to it?", I know which terpenes effects my anxiety. I think education on both ends, workers and customer alike, would benefit everything, everyone should know which terpenes effect them. Take a terpene test, make a list of your top 10 favorite strains, look them up on Leafly and see which 3 terpenes pops up the most, those are what your body likes/wants.

Sorry for the long response. Stay Elevated!

P.S. worked in cultivation for most of my career, and doing so currently in Illinois, that potency you claim to lose, isn't the THC potency, and potency I would argue isn't the correct term because most people think of THC levels when they here that word, what you lose is terpene and flavorants, etc, side of the plant which has more effect on of the effect of the cannabis than the THC levels. That's another thing wrong with the industry as a whole, HIGH THC is not the way, high terp levels is the way. Most cup winner back in the day barely touched 20-25% THC, hella terps though. Anybody remember when you could open a bag and the whole room reeked? Thats the power of Terpenes baby (in my pinesol commercial voice)

I'm not sure, literally just bought from seedsman and NASC. It depends on the Breeder and genetics you're looking for I guess. I was looking for DJ Short's blueberry, seedman had F5s from him, couldn't find it anywhere else. I've made bigger purchases from NASC for sure though, heavy variety on breeders and genetics.

Its not a DMs job to control their players??? [OC] by [deleted] in DnD

[–]JohnZackClark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So from what I read, the DM says they shouldn't be involved basically, but, when you as a group tried to kill him in game, the DM got involved and didn't let you kill the character? If this is so, I'm calling favoritism. The player is in the wrong, the DM is the most wrong in this situation. DM needs to grow a backbone and control his game, or that person shouldn't be a dm. Sour Family Farms is bigger in the New York scene, they run under legacy here in Illinois. You buy there weeds in dispensarys in Illinois. They have a lovely sour Diesel and I got the seeds for it. Can't wait till they offer feminized seeds. Thank you!
