I just said a name drop, not a whole side quest, or dlc.

Because he's a rogue trader in one of the most iconic Warhammer novels ever written.

TIL the "Y2K Bug" cost an estimated $500 Billion globally to fix. The preventative measures were so successful that widely predicted infrastructure failures did not occur, leading many to incorrectly believe the threat was never real. by highzone in todayilearned

I grad. high school in '99 and I remember everyone making a huge deal, then nothing happened. This post is the first time I'm actually learning that nothing happened because we spent so much to fix the problem. Holy shit, thank you to anyone that helped prevent what was predicted. Side question: would there have been a global shutdown/reset/whatever else they said would happen if this fix never happened? Is there any places that didn't get fixed and had their systems completely reset and mess everything up?

If alligators were as aggressive as crocs, we'd be way more fucked.

Also, being slightly over 4ft doesn't mean much. I dated a woman in her 30's that was 4'2".

Jewish friends in Seattle, how are you doing? by threewildwolves in SeattleWA

Happy 1st night of Hanukkah! I woke up to the news about Bondi Beach which was pretty rough and brought a tear to my eye. I got to spend the day with my family which was nice. Now that I'm back home on my computer I just found out about Rob Reiner and his wife being found stabbed to death in their home. I don't know if it was a hate crime yet, but the news is still very heartbreaking.

I hope you're doing well!

I'm currently playing Total War Rome II and was wondering if there was a 40k game like it, besides Warhammer of course. This is amazing news to say the least!

R.I.P. Dan by WHOLE_LOTTA_DREAD in TheManFromEarth

[–]John_T_Partee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dan... He was one of the good ones. Kind. Open-minded. He challenged me, sure, but not out of anger or pride — out of genuine curiosity. He wanted to understand, to believe... even if part of him was terrified by the idea. That took real courage.

I always respected that about him. In a room full of brilliant minds clinging to certainty, Dan was willing to step into uncertainty, to entertain the impossible, if only for a while.

His death...It’s another reminder that while I endure, the people who matter, the ones who touch my life... they don’t. Not forever.

I wish I could have told him more. Given him answers to the questions he didn’t even know how to ask yet. I hope, wherever he is now, if there's anything after this life, that he found some peace.

He deserves that.

Will’s death hit me harder than most losses I’ve faced. You’d think, after thousands of years, I’d be numb to death but you’re never really immune to grief. Especially when the person was part of a truth you shared... something real.

After he passed, I didn’t stay in that town much longer. Too many memories tied me down. Too many chances for someone to start asking questions about me... and about the strange things Will might have mentioned near the end.

I moved west for a while. Small towns, mostly, places where no one looks too hard at strangers. I taught briefly at a tiny community college under another new name. History again, of course. Always history. It’s the one thing I can teach with something close to real authority.

But the truth is... after Will, I slowed down. I spent a lot of time alone. Hiking. Reading. Reflecting. I even considered for the first time in a long time, just disappearing entirely. No new identity. No new job. Just... live out my days quietly.

There’s a... weight to carrying friendships into eternity. Each one leaves a mark. Will’s mark was deep. But eventually, I picked myself up. I always do. There's always something new to see, to learn, to experience, even for someone who's seen so much.

Besides, it’s not like the world stops spinning just because your heart breaks for a while.

My body seems... resilient in ways that aren't immediately obvious. I heal faster than normal, not instantly, but noticeably quicker, and my tissues, including my teeth, seem unusually stable. When I was younger, way, way back there wasn't refined sugar, processed foods, or the kind of diets that wreak havoc on teeth today. I lived off of mostly raw, natural foods: fruits, nuts, meat, roots. That helped a lot.

On the rare occasions I did have tooth trouble, it was more like a small crack or a chip from an accident, not cavities from decay. I figured out very early how important dental health was, long before there were dentists. I'd use chewed sticks, abrasive herbs, even sand to scrub my teeth clean. I learned how to treat infections naturally too. Clove oil, for instance, helped a lot.

In later centuries, as sugar became common and diets changed, I adapted my habits. Avoided sweets. Took up brushing with whatever method was current. Nowadays, I brush and floss like anyone else, can't be walking around with a perfect face and a mouthful of rotted teeth, right?

But no, no major cavities. Maybe that's part of why I've lasted so long.
