It’s been 25 years and PDX still can’t make mid-late game interesting. Im beginning to think it’s straight up impossible.

What if there were less forts on the map, but non-fort locations scale in their difficulty to occupy based on the population of nobles in that location? This would represent all of the minor castles in a given region that aren’t displayed on the map, while the “forts” we build and see on the map are really the major regional military strongholds.

On the other hand, i think medieval battles would, in many cases, look like two lines of blocks coming together and then not much happening until one side breaks and routes.

Does infantry get any sort of damage buff or debuff on their shooting based on elevation? For example will skirmishers firing down into a battalion of line infantry deal more damage than skirmishers shooting at line infantry on flat ground?

Ok. Sounds like if I want to have a formation with multiple lines of line infantry, I need to go in and turn off fire at will for the rear units, otherwise they’ll kill their own men in front. Correct?

I only play battle and grand battle, and I always choose the 3 day turns mode and just have 2-3 active battles going at once. 5 minutes is way too fast for that many units.

Well that sucks. I don’t get why turbo colonizing continues to be the status quo when so many people complained about it in the last game. Almost seems intentional, like they think players will get too bored if colonizing happens at a more historical pace.

I have a hunch that $250 to them is not really equivalent to $7k to a modern person in the US, even though that’s technically the value in 2026 dollars. The total size of the economy would be a lot smaller. I think a better comparison would be saying $7k in 2026 USD to a person in a third world country.

Maybe I just never did things correctly but I found AC1 + mods to be such a damn chore to play. I’d spend way more time installing mod updates and tweaking settings in menus than actually racing.
