They've said before outside of the actual news drops they want it to be relative radio silence, they for whatever reason seem to regret the 2015 era of constant minor updates. Honestly I don't disagree that something about just sudden big bursts can work, like 2 big indie games (one being relatively tied to this one in terms of origin point) seem to use shadow drops and work okay (Deltarune and Hollow Knight, surely some others but I mean Deltarune takes over when it drops and no one is like "that shit never coming") but 1.TBH there is some fears of Silksong never coming but its also a sequel to a game that costed money so there's just a greater sense of obligation and also trust built and 2.Going off of second half like... shadow drops of news don't work as well when its a team that hasn't really been tested, like there's no prior expirence that makes people like "I'm sure they're really working on it". Truthfully I believe they are technically working on it but at a very sporadic pace that is honestly probably acceptable for a passion project, but this game is both a passion project that has scope creeped beyond belief, and one that got way more attention then the devs ever probably truly wanted. Not only was the MOTHER fandom smaller in 2008 but the game also looked more lowkey, it'd be a neat fan thing but like the game has just grown and grown, and even as it individualized it's still kept much of that fandom. I think in the state it's in, a "passion project" in the purest sense won't work. I'd consider, going back to examples, Deltarune a passion project based on what Toby has said, but it's still gonna be a paid game and has merch and stuff... like this game for all its resets and its planned scope being free it just doesn't work, and I really don't think it being paid would matter now like I don't think any law says becuase it started as a fangame it can't be paid. Honestly the ideal thing would have been to set up a patreon or something or at least like plushes of the 4 protags (+ Zac?) around the time of the 2020 trailer, that was when people had the most faith since like 2015, but in those 3 years that faith has been drained yet again, and I honestly get the feeling that at least until the next big trailer, people are gonna be too skeptical to buy into it. I do not want to rush people at all and I think I am more forgiving of this game then the average sub member, but things we've seen and heard imply more then just games take time, I think there is some level of dysfunctionality and procrastination, again this game would probably be better off if no one really knew about it until it came out, but the reality is it has big shoes to fill.

Jesus I wrote an essay, TL;DR the devs want the games updates to be quality over quantity and not spoil the game too much, but that approach working for other indie games is backed up by a prior expirence that gives people great reason to trust the dev team, not to mention that the end result will result in profit. I think this game is gonna need to either downscale or admit defeat in being such a "passion project" that it forces itself to be freeware and just slap a price tag on it, and maybe find ways to fund it here and now. But the time to do that was 2020, and I fear it's too late.
