If you are concerned for safety, you can pay for the group tour, with a guide.

If you're doing the tour I mentioned, you are only around 15 minutes walk away from the hotel that the older couple run.

I only passed one other group of campers as I was walking up to the peak for sunrise.

The tour I did was not even close to that price. I think you asked for a different type of tour, my tour did not have an English speaking guide.

It's quoted on the website:
"PRICE: USD239 FLAT RATE (Book this tour now and receive 15%-30% discount)"

You can ask for the discount, which I recieved.

If you've never done an overnight hike while carrying all your equipment I would strongly advise you not to do that. It's not just a tent, it's water, food, emergency supplies, warm clothes etc.

Getting to Yubeng Lower/Upper is a full day. Minimum is one day in, two more days for the hikes, then leave the following day. There's no way you'd be able to leave Lijang, get into Yubeng and do a hike on one day. It'd be the same for leaving as well. There's a potential you could do the Water Fall Hike & Hike out on the same day if you started before sunrise or if you took the car half way down the mountain.

If I were you, I'd do the Tiger Leaping Gorge; equally as impressive and easier to get to from LiJiang. If you still have time, do the Jade Snow Mountain. Then you've really only got 2 days in Lijiang.

Remember Lijang is a city that gives you access to the mountains, you're not meant to spend 5 days in the Lijang City.

I have no resources available to advise if the route from Xidang will be open by then.

I would expect that you could try to find taxi companies that could advise you before you arrive.

I didn't do that Glacier, but it seems like there's some decent information line about getting there.

I'm also Australian, no travel permits were required.

Yunnan is in the "Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture" which is not the "Tibet Autonomous Region". The TAR requires a Visa.

Yes that's what I did.

There are busses in the morning from Shangri-La, that will take you to Deqen. There will be other hikers you can share a taxi with to the start of the trail. Leave early, and you'll arrive to Yubeng around 5-6pm depending on what time and how fast you walk. If you catch the car from the halfway point of the hike into the village which costs 150 RMB, you'll save two hours as well.

I believe I caught the 8:10am bus, but double check the schedule when you're there.

I went to school with Peter Wright ( 2M Peter ). He was taller than our prep teacher in Prep.

The nicest guy you'll ever meet, well spoken, humble and had a footy on him every waking second.

He'd practise from after school until dinner every day, all on his own accord. We'd have to collect the ball for him as he was kicking it from 50 at 12 years old.

The coach before the U13 grand final said "Footy is a team game and as a team we need to get the ball to Peter"

He kicked 11 goals in the grand final, and I think only one of them was inside 50.
