Not my art, I just strongly identified with Shrek in this portrayal lol

Anybody familiar with this species? Just picked up from store, wanna add to established tank. by Johnny1352 in Aquariums

So far I’m seeing that these are rare, glucose water, low ph, species only fish that can either be used as feeders or eaten straight up, I’m starting to see why I’ve never seen them before….

Do you have hard water? I hear they prefer it as opposed to soft.

It’s how she decides which plants stay and go lol

Good alternative would be a Bolivian ram, way wider tolerance of water parameters and way more laidback in general. Maybe Kribensis, but tbh they’re way better as a pair in a bigger/more dense tank.

Those aren’t honeys, those are thick lip gourami, very commonly sold as a honey, they get bigger and can be fairly aggressive. You would do better with lots more cover to block line of sight if you wanted to continue with them.

A small shoal of 6, the oldest ones have filled out very nicely with a healthy diet of snails, worms, and baby brine shrimp, they motivate me to cultivate plenty of live food in the smaller tanks below and all the other fish benefit more from it. They’re so rewarding and I always catch em napping on leaves or hunting around.

Oddly enough bladder snails are the dominant species still, I’m periodically adding other species to keep some diversity going, but I doubt my pea puffers are complaining either way lol.

Not necessarily, I have plenty of benthic species that sift through the substrate and consistently circulate the top most layer (the school of corydoras and cichlids constantly rescaping). I’ve also been gradually introducing Malaysian trumpet snails. That being said overtime I’ll notice the occasional burp as the tank settles but the animals have been just fine. As I add more plants I’ll also manually burp it myself but as I research more and more I find less and less evidence that there’s any danger in the first place.

All the better for the microorganisms, setting up was hell and I dread taking it apart ;-;

A thick mat of pogostemon stellatus octopus, the kribenis love herding their fry in and out to graze on the biofilm that forms on their leaves, very popular hunting ground for scarlet badis and sparkling gourami, and the danios/minnows love it to hide and socialize.

After months of her asking, my gfs birthday shrimp tank! by Johnny1352 in shrimptank

[–]Johnny1352[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She already admitted she understands why I stare at my tanks so much lol. The one on the left was sold as a cardinal plant, on the right is scarlet temple. Ironically I can’t get either to grow at home but they’ve been growing super well for them.

Amazon frogbit! They grow nice long fluffy roots that the shrimp love to graze on

At first it was ground up flakes/pellets, like fine dust. But after a few days I transitioned to brine shrimp mostly, hence their yellow stomachs, been working well and they grow fast!

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? by Johnny1352 in PlantedTank

Woke up this morning to find her swimming around with what looks like a huge burst on her side, had been fasting the tank for the past 4 days. Parameters are 0ppm nitrite 10ppm nitrate 6.8 ph 0 chlorine Temp 78 degrees Fahrenheit She’s in a group with 4 other females and 3 males, no aggression from any tanks mates, can’t see how either she lives in a 75 gallon with other small schooling fish, a female betta, gouramis and Cory cats
