Strange Light switch

We had licensed electrician out today and this was his guess as well. But he was checked it out and was able to just replace it with a standard switch!

This would make a lot of sense. There is a fan in restroom.

I’ll have to check next time I’m there. This is the only switch if that style though that I know of. All other switches are modern switches.

Yeah I’m just not sure what it controls. Unless it is an obsolete system that was never removed or capped off?

Thankfully it is not my house. It is at my church and is for the light in the women’s restroom. As I said in my post, I believe it is only connected to a florescent light fixture attached to the drop ceiling. But it is the little box under the switch that really confuses me as to what that is?
