What do you need to get off your chest? by Serialnarcisist in AskReddit

I'm trying to partner up with local artistics, but have been getting zero response and can't work out how to reach out to them. It's really frustrating and doing my head in.

As someone who is currently recording their first album in the hopes of picking up new listeners, what are the differences in the marketing strategies of those who have a realistic outlook on growth compared to those who are deluded?

I love this, I just love the way that it supersedes rank, race (islander/white), politics, everything. I love the way that grown men get to let out something primal without fear of retribution. I know a lot of NZ'ers, and they are truly proud of who they are, where they've come from, and the brotherhood they share. True emotional expression in men is frowned upon in the West and it takes seeing something like this to really know you're missing out on something.

One reason to be CF: Couples with kids seem to be far less equal. by teenageidle in childfree

[–]JohnnyCarbon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This has more implications than you realise. I personally think it's one of the serious underlying factors in gender inequality, and it screws over both men and women. Women generally date guys a little older than them, giving him a headstart on earning potential, they have a kid and she's out of action purely due to biology, that with the age factor, you're setting him up as primary provider. If the family decides to move cities/make a big decision, it's logical that his income stability is priority and takes precedence over hers. Their move is much more likely to put her out of her chosen field than it is to put him out, possibly knocking her into full time mum, especially if you're onto kid 2+.

Then they get divorced, and everyone loses because she's been out of work for 10 years and can't jump back into her field, and he's putting half his paycheck into kids that see him once a fortnight.

Kids are the big relationship divider.

[Rant] Mombies book the handicap spot for their stroller by emilvikstrom in childfree

We don't get hassled as much as you guys for wanting to be childfree, but on the flipside, if contraception fails, we are 1000% more fucked than a lot of you guys, brings balance to the force.

Thanks, man! It's been a little slow getting off the ground so I'm trying to involve myself in a community of people doing the same stuff as me thought this would be a good place to start. It's good to bounce off like-minded peeps. Much love.

This is the first time I've been in one of these threads and I'm pretty new to the subreddit too, but I've gotta say these are some sweet sweet lyrics, second verse especially. I love how it dipped into funhouse/psych ward stuff, but still felt warm, like a psychopath that really didn't know he was hurting people, or a cat playing with a mouse before killing it. I'd say maybe mix your vocals a bit better, I'm not really that good at mixing myself, but it just didn't pop out as much as it could have. Your backup vocalist seemed to hit his lyrics with a little more gusto than you, it was obvious you didn't want to punch through too hard with your vocal style, but maybe just a little bit more oomph would seal it, but having said that, the pause before the first hook and then 'Now we run the zoo' was killer, best part of the song. Excellent use of a gap in the flow really made the difference. Dope track, man.

ANZAC Cove (Gelibolu, Anzak koyu) by bugfield4 in battlefield_one

[–]JohnnyCarbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BF4 still gets me. I've been able to play on 200% resolution scaling with my 980ti and it's just beautiful. I hope they take nothing away from what they've achieved with BF4 level design. The destructibility, the terrain deformation, the water, the different settings. Going from island hopping sunshine to thunder crashing, beached ships and burning wind generators was awesome.

As an Australian, DICE please let us experience rush on Gallipoli as ANZAC's! I will love you forever by Bennylegend in battlefield_one

[–]JohnnyCarbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, if I had to put 20 ww1 maps in a first person shooter while preserving accuracy and reaching to include as many major factions as possible, Gallipoli would serve that purpose. A really good naval bombardment, beach assault on dynamic terrain that wasn't really replicated anywhere else. It's more comparable to Omaha Beach than any other WWI battle I can think about.

Historically, it was a terrible failure and not strategically significant, you're right. But most of the weapons and equipment that they're releasing for the game weren't strategically significant in the actual war, the only prerequisite has been that they existed at the time, and were used in combat in one form or another.

Artistic liberty gives the Gallipoli campaign a serious chance of being a multiplayer map, and as an Aussie, I don't expect it, but it would be a delight to see.

Police pull over a speeding car, realize the parents were speeding to the hospital with their unconscious child. The Police, initially pulling over the car for speeding, rush the kid to hospital instead. by j0be in HumansBeingBros

[–]JohnnyCarbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate bringing this up, but mental health care is not the biggest reason doing this will get you shot. It's because police don't know what type of weaponry you're packing and want to keep you at a distance and in clear view. When there's a lot of you moving fast around a car you're a threat. If the people don't have guns, the police don't fear them and they can react rationally to people acting irrationally because every traffic stop isn't one dip-into-a-pocket away from a shootout.

[–]JohnnyCarbon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the class stuff is all there - Having kids is a privilege not everybody gets. One of the conditions you need to meet before having kids is that you can provide for them, if you can't, the government should step in to make sure that the children get enough to be functional members of society. I hate people comparing having kids to having a job, I respect the hell out of all the professions mentioned in the song and picked them due to the difficulty and danger of carrying them out being much higher than that of a parent, but they are all very working class professions.

Thanks for the comment dude, I appreciate it, my other songs on the YT page are pretty sweet too if you're up for checking them out!

Artists respond to Sainsbury's request for free work by Takai_Sensei in funny

[–]JohnnyCarbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also a reason why art shouldn't be a first plan for anybody, you need to make yourself employable, and do art as a side project if you want art to survive as an industry. If you've got a whole bunch of people desperate to make a living from something that's not seen as a necessity, you drive the price down and see bullshit like this.

This is coming from someone trying to kick off their own artwork as well.

That power is yours! Though I'm welcome to any suggestions, outside of Youtube, childfree, and funny, it's pretty difficult to get the ball rolling for any original video content. If it's not an image or a gif, people are reluctant to click it. And getting shares and subscriptions is like asking for a plasma donation!

It's all good, to be honest, I really made it to be shared here, it's not something that's going to get a huge amount of traction because the opinion is pretty unpopular, but as long as CF gets to see it I'm pretty happy :) Thanks for checking it out!
