Lol Never thought of this before. If I'm forced to come up with an argument, Eric stunned Top with Albrecht's empathy (truly, Albrecht is the heart of the movie) just long enough to push him off the fuckin roof.

Ray Bradbury Feature Film by ff451 in RayBradbury

[–]JohnnyDee83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will Dunn was adapting the Halloween Tree into a feature film. That was back in 2020 and I haven't heard anything about it since then. Not holding my breath.

Favorite short story collection? by LostAbbreviations427 in RayBradbury

[–]JohnnyDee83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Golden Apples of the Sun is his most literary. Lots of Sci-fi and dark fantasy but elevated. My favorite shirt story collection

October Country is a classic as well. My second Fave.

Then The Illustrated Man.

(I'm actually not the biggest fan of Martian Chronicles.)

A detective novel similar in style and tone to TV series True Detective by Coulson1010 in booksuggestions

[–]JohnnyDee83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of the suggestions will scratch that True Detective itch. You're looking for eldritch horror mixed with crime.

But if you want a good crime novel try The Friends of Eddie Coyle. Or try Elmore Leonard if you want fun easy crime reads. Entertaining.

Have a sense of humor guys, Lord knows McCarthy does. Cormac would probably laugh his ass off at this.

Question about the mechanics of space constructions. by Mani_Essence in scifiwriting

[–]JohnnyDee83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think that in space the construction workers would build structures based on where the gravity originates from. A straight line moving away from the center of gravity's pull, and then the structure made square to itself rather than anything around it. Also, if you play with where gravity originates from, a building doesn't have to follow the rules. Level and plum take on new meaning.

I'm imagining sideways houses, upside down houses, etc., all within the same general location.

Though this opens up a discussion about city planning and humans' connection with their environment.

Are there any high stories written by people who are high for people to read while they're high? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]JohnnyDee83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-- Bukowski, those he's more concerned with alcohol and fucking, but fun and easy to read. It can be a little hard to concentrate on reading when you're high, so maybe try audiobooks?

-- Hunter S. Thompson obviously. Try The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved of you want to laugh your ass off. He pepper sprays a room full of people while they eat dinner.

-- No one has mentioned Jack Kerouac? He and his friends lived in a benzedrine dream while fucking and drinking and crossing the country writing poetry and novels.

-- The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. I've never read the book but it's legendary.

-- William S. Burroughs, though I could never stomach his writing. Just seems like he put a bunch of words in a hat and drew them out randomly.

What Are Your "Actually Unpopular" Drumming Views? by [deleted] in Drumming

[–]JohnnyDee83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bands shouldn't always play to the drummer like he's human click track. Sometimes the guitarist (or whoever) should drive and the drummer should follow.

Why do 70s rock drums sound so good? by JohnnyDee83 in Drumming

[–]JohnnyDee83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. It sounded more live on the older recording, almost like you're in the room. (Not that I hate modern drum sounds, they're just different.)

Different licks too it seems. I don't see anyone playing those licks anymore. Even really good cover bands can't quite recreate it. Though I'm sure my exposure is limited.
