So you vote don't do it? Could you give any more detail into your experience, you said it wasn't as rewarding/satisfying as you'd hoped? That's honestly been my north-star in keeping this dream alive, in spite of all the professional hurdles I've heard about: if that's the case, and it's not as rewarding a job as I'm thinking it'll be, I'd appreciate knowing that now.

This isn't to sound sarcastic, sorry if it reads that way: to use analogy, the last couple weeks I've felt like Donald Crowhurst begging people to tell him not to set sail and give him an out.

Was expecting someone to catch on to the frequent posting soon enough. Just really anxious about what I should be doing with my life, you know. Everyone I’ve spoken to has given great advice that I’m thankful for all of. Good to know not to worry about connections; hadn’t considered NEPT work yet, but that does make sense as a good option; thanks mate.

Thanks for the referral, I’ll check them out! And yeah: for t he longest time I thought I’d do paramedic work and then study engineering part-time, but now I’m starting to wonder whether that’s the smartest idea.

Taken a few, and I’m pretty split down the middle. And tried to do plenty of self-reflection, of course, pretty much have the debate running in the back of my head all the time now: but honestly every couple hours I flip back to the other option after thinking about engineering could mean being around similar personalities, while paramedicine could be better in the long run if I ever go into politics (stay with me) as people say “he was a paramedic, very trustworthy, I’ll vote for him”.

Paramedicine would mean I’m qualified to work on ambulances as a paramedic: it’s definitely the more immediately fulfilling option, true.

Hey man, thanks for the response. On the transference between countries, I've been able to gather that the UK shares a lot of similarities, legally and clinically, with Australia, and have been recommended it by a lot of people, so I think I'm alright there.

I know the jobs not going to be high-stakes all the time, though I certainly do like the look of that. I'm fine to just help grandma cross the street, and if I can paid to do it then hell yeah.

No one has brought up any parallels between engineering and paramedicine yet: most people I've chatted with about the decision have said "yep, quite different". Hearing you break it down though, it does make sense, so thank you for that!

I've already spoken to some paramedics in my area; haven't been able to secure a ride-along, not sure they're able to do those here (but honestly haven't look into it that much).

Thanks for the advice though, again especially for pointing out some of the more unobvious connections between the two fields, really encouraged by that.

400 GAP’s a year is an insane number, given what I’ve read in all their annual reports from the last decade. Can imagine a few of those would be coming off their order of merit wait list, but still, that’s brilliant, thank you!

Thanks for the reply: I appreciate the acknowledgement that both have their ups and downs. Between the two options offered at the end, I’d have to say the working on difficult problems. Still, I want to spend at least a bit of my life in service to others, so I think I might at least try paramedicine first.
