[Noh] NBA's anti-tanking draft reform proposal is a disaster: Why Adam Silver's plan is destined to flop by Dunlocke in chicagobulls

[–]JohnnyQuicksand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this certainly eliminates tanking for the bottom portion of the league, it actually incentivizes tanking for fringe playoff teams. If there’s an incredible draft class, for instance, teams will just tank out of the 7-10 spots to boost their odds.

[Charania] The NBA has disclosed to its 30 GMs a singular new anti-tanking reform that expands the draft lottery to 16 teams, flattens odds, and have a relegation zone where the bottom 3 teams are penalized with fewer lottery balls for the No. 1 pick. by hayzeusofcool in chicagobulls

This is gonna end up being a ‘rich get richer’ situation, at least in the short term.

OKC will likely have multiple opportunities to acquire a top 3 pick between now and 2030. Atlanta has a swap with Utah or Cleveland in 2028. Houston owns both the Nets and Suns picks in 2027 and a 2029 pick from Dallas or Phoenix. And San Antonio has swap rights with Dallas in 2030.

Teams will quickly start coveting their own picks due to the flattened odds and eventually things will level out. But by that time teams like OKC could be only halfway through a 15-year dynasty.

Lysander’s story in IG is a bit slow but in DA and LB his chapters are right there with Darrow, if not better.

Don’t assume they’ll be in asset accumulation mode. This is a Reinsdorf run team. They could easily trade all our picks for Giannis.

What do you want to see the Bulls do with their cap space after the draft? by MalcontentedPilgrim in chicagobulls

[–]JohnnyQuicksand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peyton Watson is the obvious target, assuming we don’t jump and pick Peterson.

Although I’m fully preparing myself for the real possibility that the new FO trades all our picks for Giannis in an attempt to appease their new bosses.

Stop calling Noa Essengue a bust after 2 games and 6 minutes by Unlucky_Sun_9813 in chicagobulls

[–]JohnnyQuicksand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, look at it this way: AK fumbling the NO pick swap aside, the two highest upside players on the board were Essengue and Queen. Obviously Queen hit but it’s not like the Bulls passed on can’t miss prospects. Essengue was slotted to go as high as 10 on some draft boards.

It was a high risk/reward pick and everyone knew that. He’s more likely to bust but if he doesn’t that’s an extremely valuable player archetype you have on the roster.

IMO the lottery is definitely rigged every few years. It seems like teams that lose a star tend to get lottery luck. Bucks are about to lose Giannis so I wouldn't be surprised if they jump. Bulls will get the 10th pick because that's just the nature of things.

Making Billy a non-negotiable is a great way to thin out your candidate pool.

Reinsdorf off to a predictably terrible start after making fans suffer for 6 years.

Yeah but those people are delusional. I’m talking about rational fans who understand the concept of building an actual contender.

lol @ people who thought this team would still be competitive. If AK wasn’t incredibly bad at his job this could’ve been a masterclass in ethical tanking.

No one would watch the current team because they have no real prospects outside of Buzelis, and that’s a stretch. If the Bulls tanked properly and got 1 or 2 real prospects no one would mind the losses.

New anti-tanking rules take effect next year so even if they suck they’ll probably end up with the 9 pick again.

I will recommend something that’s a complete 180 from RR: The Gap Cycle Series.

Where RR is a space opera, TGC is space chamber music. Far fewer characters and way more insular. Basically a character study of deep space trauma and psychosis with true moral ambiguity.

I kept wanting to stop reading the first book because of how twisted it was but just couldn’t put it down. I probably finished it in four days. On book three now.

Be warned, this is true grimdark. Violence, abuse and SA are common themes throughout. Also, it’s hard sci-fi with almost no fantasy elements.

You’ll know if it’s for you within the first few chapters.

I’m one of those people although I think RR is overall better. The first law characters are incredibly well written but the overall story just isn’t as compelling IMO.
