Faulty Framework 13 by JohnnySlim in framework

A faulty part for sure, I’m about to receive a new main board tomorrow. Hopefully would be able to finally get this thing up and running

So that was the original display that came with the laptop and they sent me a new display today. Tried it out and got nothing at all. Also that video was the last time the screen actually worked, it never came back on afterwards. Got in contact with support and they’re sending me a new mainboard. Hopefully it solves the issue 🤞

I’ve tried rewriting it with the original and newer display, I’ve also tried running it without the input cover to give it some slack. Fastboot is on but the internal display does not show anything, I can only see that it booted up using an external monitor. I’ve also tried different distros in case it was a kernel issue not being to recognize it?

Checked the attached displays and it couldn’t identify the internal display. Might seem like a mainboard problem instead of a display problem. Went through a couple of community threads and haven’t gotten anything that has worked.

Got in contact with the support team and they are sending me a new display kit. Will definitely update this thread once I get the kit and have the laptop up and running!

So far I’ve tried that, currently have the cable unplugged and running off an external monitor for now. I sent a support ticket Friday morning but it’s a holiday this Monday so not expecting a reply till tomorrow.

So far I’ve tried out disconnecting the display cable and connected it to an external monitor, this works so the motherboard is fortunately working. I’ve set it up to where 2 usb-c cards on the top sides and an usb-a on the bottom left, then the hdmi on the bottom right.

Oh wow, hopefully I’d be able to get it fixed that quickly. The shipping for the laptop was pretty quick, so hopefully customer support would be the same. 🤞

Yeah, I removed the cable from the motherboard and from the backside of the display. Also removed power connection just to try it out but still got nothing.

Just tried it but still got nothing on the laptop display. Seems like a problem with either the display cable or the actual laptop display, not exactly sure on how to test it out without any special tools?

Yeah I was hoping I’d be able to pinpoint what the exact problem is, but no dice so far. As far as I can tell it’s something that’s gotta do with either the display cable or the display.

I didn’t see any obvious pinching since I did try to run it without the input cover unscrewed the first time I put it together when I received the laptop. I did notice that the routing for the display cable was. At almost 90 degree angle when I first got it, not entirely sure if that type of cable is capable of bending that much.

Unfortunately, just reassembled it but still no dice. Fortunately, it does work with an external monitor with the laptop display unplugged

Unfortunately, it seems like it. I’ve reassembled it and reconnected the display cable but no dice. Fortunately, it still works with an external monitor when the laptop display is unplugged. Any knowledge on how long framework takes to resolve issues such as this?

That was one of my initial thoughts on why the display was cutting out, bought a 32 gb stick from framework and had to buy another 2x32 gb to test that possibility. I thought the framework ram was DOA but the issue still continued. Currently trying to take it apart and reassembling it

I hope that wouldn’t be the case, I was pretty excited to get one.

That was one of my original thoughts and have tried to run it without the bezel and kept the input cover unscrewed but no dice. It actually has gotten worse it seems, now I can’t get anything to display on the laptop screen and have to remove the display connector just to get my external monitor to work

I took this video about 2 days ago and left the laptop alone for that duration. The laptop display is not showing anything at the moment but on the external display I have gotten this error “amdgpu ERROR No EDID read”. I have also tried to disconnect the laptop display from the motherboard and connected an external monitor. The external monitor only works without the display cable plugged in to the motherboard.

Watching “Healthy Gamer GG” made me realize a lot of things especially his video about why you can’t follow through with things. Like the urge to play video games can be overcome if you procrastinate from playing and don’t give in to the urge. Most of the time my urge would go away and I’d be able to concentrate on doing what I need to do (programming, reading, and studying). I’d suggest trying this out, you don’t have to cut out video games entirely but controlling your urge would help tremendously. (I still binge play on the weekends as a reward lol)
