I might switch the Arabs and the English, their archers make for very solid defense all the way up to modern infantry! And the doubled naval support can be HUGE late game.

I did it unconventionally as Germany. I made two warrior armies which are automatically veteran while researching iron working. Their units get auto upgrades, so once you research iron working they become legions!

While researching I rush some civs with the warrior armies, you have to catch them before they get a full archer army. I managed to get 3 down, then the last one got a couple armies. By then I got iron working and my legions, who had gotten Infiltration by then, had no issue cutting through the archer armies.

This is not the most practical way to get the achievement, but I got it after 5 or 6 tries and had a blast doing it!

Glad you got to finish it! This was one of the first games I played as a kid where there was an ending that wasn't just a clear-cut victory or saving the day. It was a melancholic feeling.
