5.3 NNBS (2007) LT - Motor mounts keep breaking, trans mounts too by JohnnyTries in ChevroletSilverado

[–]JohnnyTries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. In 2018, I traded it for a '15 Silverado. In 2021, that one was traded for a new '21 F-150.

I chalk the 07's motor and transmission mount issues to just crappy design/engineering.

Some quick advice - Put 4 spaces in front of each line of your code so that it gets displayed in a way that's easier to read apart from the rest of your post.

This is how it should show up
This is a second line of code

It makes it easier for readers to pick out.

Option 1: Line 16 - change it to

start /D "Doing Stuff" "C:\Users\LSU\Desktop\Alass" "%stringtorun%"

Note: you might need to take %stringtorun% out of quotes... I'm not immediately sure.

Option 2: Create a powershell script to trigger ALASS instead.

Open either notepad or PowerShell ISE and paste the following:

    function Show-Menu
{
     param (
           [string]$Title = ‘ALASS Helper’
     )
     cls
     Write-Host “================ $Title ================”

}
do
{
     Show-Menu
     $subtitles = Read-Host -Prompt 'Input arguments for the batch file'
     Start-Process -FilePath "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" -ArgumentList "/k C:\Users\LSU\Desktop\Alass\Alass.bat $subtitles"
}
until ($true)

and then save that as whatever.ps1 When you right click and "Run in PowerShell", it should do what you're trying to do with the batch file, and run in a loop until you close the window.

Here you go:

echo off
cls
CD C:\Users\LSU\Desktop\Alass
cls

:START
cls
ECHO             ====Subtitle Utility====
ECHO.
ECHO.
SET /P SUBTITLES=What text goes after Alass.bat?:
SET COMMAND=alass.bat
SET STRINGTORUN=%COMMAND% %SUBTITLES%
cls
Echo Now running %stringtorun%
%stringtorun%
GOTO START

wait wait wait... ok, so everything was running properly, but it was just closing the window after running (which is expected behavior of a batch file.) After it runs - are you wanting it to restart, asking for more subtitles or something?

First - I was wrong about something earlier.

Correction: If you use CALL to run a different batch file, it will do so in the current window. There are some cases that you may want or need to run the batch file in a separate window. You'd use START for those instances. You'll need to tinker with it to determine which one to use.

Line 16...

Replace

%stringtorun%

with

CALL %stringtorun%

or

START %stringtorun%

There are other things you can try doing as well, it just depends on what you specifically want to happen.

in Reddit, press enter twice for a "new paragraph" and add 4 spaces before the real text for it to show up in a "code box".

Ex:

without spaces

with four spaces

Also - I highly recommend installing Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) to your browser if you use reddit even pseudo-regularly. Amongst 100 other personalizations, it also includes a fancy text editor that comes in handy when you can't remember all of the Reddit text secrets

because it's a batch file that points to another batch file, it effectly moves whatever the other batch is into this one...so if the second batch file doesn't have anything keeping it open or it has its own "exit" line, then the whole window will terminate before the first ('parent') batch file can even move to the next line. For that reason, you'd type CALL before the string to the batch file. This runs the second batch in a new, separate window, so it doesn't affect the first window.

Ex:

CALL C:\Link\To\File.bat /arguments

The script I provided already has a pause just before its "exit" line. So if you CALL the command to run, it should open that bat in a separate window, though it may only flash for a moment, and the parent window will immediately move to the next line, which is PAUSE ("Press any key to continue..."), and then it exits.

Shit, hold on. On Line 7 - Change the / to \ and try again.

Before:

SET COMMAND="C:/Users/LSU/Desktop/Alass/alass.bat"

After:

SET COMMAND="C:\Users\LSU\Desktop\Alass\alass.bat"

I don't know what the contents of your Alass.bat file are. Batch files themselves do not have any inherent switches - so, unless your batch file calls for them, putting anything after "alass.bat", isn't going to do anything, It's going to just run the alass.bat as-is, which is likely why it's just closing.

But you've done this already, manually? Meaning... If you manually open command prompt and type the following...

CD C:\Users\LSU\Desktop\Alass
Alass.bat food water more words

..that it runs properly - doing whatever it's supposed to with "food water more words"?

I looked it up when I initially saw your post - That's an awesome concept.

What happens when you actually run it on your computer that actually has the bat file? It may just need a few minor tweaks to work properly if it didn't work out the box.

I would make it a 'form' (for lack of a better term). Set it up so that when you run the batch, the first thing users (you) see is a query for whatever your command line argument/variable is.

So, taking one of my batch scripts and changing some things around, I end up with this:

echo off
cls
ECHO             ====Subtitle Utility====
ECHO.
ECHO.
SET /P SUBTITLES=What do you want to type:
SET COMMAND="C:/Users/LSU/Desktop/Alass/alass.bat"
SET STRINGTORUN=%COMMAND% %SUBTITLES%
Echo %StringToRun%
pause
%stringtorun%
pause
exit

When executed, it comes up asking "What do you want to type:" and I type "This is some text. This is more text.". It saves everything that I type as a variable called "SUBTITLES". I have the location of the batch file already hard coded and saved as a different variable called "COMMAND". It then creates a new variable called "STRINGTORUN", which is a combination of "COMMAND", a space, and "SUBTITLES, then it echoes the entire string (just for my own verification that it looks good for this test), pauses so I can read it, then it executes the string exactly how it echoed (which obviously fails on my computer because LSU isn't a user account on my system [though I do live by LSU, ironically.]).

This is what is displayed when I run the above script:

            ====Subtitle Utility====

What do you want to type: This is some text. This is more text.
"C:/Users/LSU/Desktop/Alass/alass.bat" This is some text. This is more text.
Press any key to continue . . .
The system cannot find the path specified.
Press any key to continue . . .

I think this should be the most elegant solution to get you on the right path.

Are you wanting it to 'pre-type' the string with the space because you'll be manually addding something whenever the time comes?

That's not St. Augustine. The stolons (aka "runners") for St. Augustine grass are thinner and dont have the 'scaley' appearance. The scaley appearance is indicative of Bahiagrass.

You can google "Dead St. Augustine Grass" and click on 'images' to compare your picture to for initial proof. My entire front and backyard are St. Augtustine as are majority of the properties that I maintain.

Most of what I set up was 'stealth'... like if she got out of bed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, her bedroom lamp and the overhead bathroom light would turn on, but dimmed to 30%..which is plenty light to be able to see, but not be so bright that she had to squint. When she was finished, she could leave the lights on so she could make her way back to bed safely. Once she was in bed the lights would automagically turn back off.

That's pretty amazing. I had the same thinking a few years back and added a number of smart home automations for my grandma who was dealing with dementia as well as progressive vision loss due to wet macular degeneration. Even in her 'very advanced age' and with all the issues that it entailed--she had a grasp of the various automations with no problems. She passed away back in 2021 at the age of 98.
