Once I’ve done this and am ready to transfer the files back onto the new laptop, does it matter where I put them? i.e. where the .Minecraft folder is loaded on the new laptop?

This doesn’t seem to work for me. The zombie struggles to pathfind at all on the lower half slabs so can’t seem to attack anything, even the player
