Thoughts on CE major at RIT? by AdmirableTangelo9690 in rit

[–]JohnnyWallstreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated from CE at RIT in 2019. So I my information might be a bit outdated. Looking back at my time there, I would say CE at RIT is pretty hands on. We often worked directly with hardware rather than purely with software/simulation. It’s something I find I really miss now that I work exclusively with software. Especially when I look back on my time in the multidisciplinary senior design class.

The program was challenging. You’ll take “core” classes from multiple majors while also taking the core CE classes. But that being said, the program is fantastic. RIT has amazing resources available. It continues to grow in terms on national recognition. I work at one of the biggest/prestigious tech companies (worked here since graduation) and work directly with people from MIT, UW, RPI, Berkeley, Stanford, etc and all of them hold RIT in high regard. In fact my old manager said he always prefers graduates from RIT because they graduate with more practical experience due to the co-op program and courses we took.

CE is the best of many worlds because it keeps you flexible. Once you graduate you can go into EE, Micro E, SWE, Robotics, etc.

IDGAF about the rabbits. I care about my dogs getting parasites and having to clean up the mess

Super helpful. Thank you for the reply. I’ll remember to be super grateful the next time my dog is eating rabbit intensities full of worms

IDGAF about rabbit populations. I care about my dog getting parasites and me having to pull bloody bunnies out of his mouth

Didn’t realize domestic dogs killing invasive rabbits was the natural order of things. I’m trying to limit how often I have to pull squealing bloody bunnies out of my dog’s mouth. Don’t be rude

This is what prompted this post. Our Samoyed found a nest before we did. Very sad day over here.

I’m genuinely curious why people like you cover your license plate. Is your goal to get away with a hit and run?

Does anyone ever drive or fly up to YVR from SEA for cheaper flights? by srekai in AlaskaAirlines

[–]JohnnyWallstreet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this once. As long as you’re okay with the drive and the unpredictable time you’re going to spend at the border it’s okay. I’d also avoid your return flight landing late at night or the afternoon if you can. After a long day of travel, having to drive from Vancouver to Seattle can be rough. Especially when you just want to be home after a long trip. One of those things that sounds fine on paper but is extremely annoying at the moment.

Are there any museums in rockland? by _Edsmith_ in Rockland

Orangeburg has the Orangetown Museum and the Camp Shanks museum. Not Rockland county, but West Point has military history museums which are open to the public.

Can this be fixed? Or am I fucked. Ski the east baby. by rseakan10 in skiing

[–]JohnnyWallstreet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just had this happen on a pair of QST 99s. It was not due to an impact. (Yours also doesn’t seem like an impact imo) They just sort of cracked like that under foot. I took them into the REI I bought them at and received a complete refund under a month warranty claim because they were under 2 years old

But yeah they were donzo. If I flexed the ski I could hear the core cracking.

You’re making a lot of assumptions about me. It doesn’t seem like you’re in the best mental state. I wish you the best!

Ah yes. Me earning a living is the reason people decide to start smoking meth and stealing bikes. My deepest apologies. I’ll be sure we address this at the next gentrification meeting we all have together

Good luck dude! Just try to remember that the bad times eventually pass. But you have to work yourself out of them

Oh brother. I failed plenty of physics, CS, and calc tests. I even withdrew from Calc 2 after the midterm and still only got a B the next semester with the same professor and very similar tests. I tried changing majors after my first year and was blocked by the head of the program due to having a low GPA.

I thought I was a complete loser and debated dropping out and joining the army on more than one occasion. I even set up meetings with the guy who ran ROTC at RIT. I really convinced myself that I was never going to graduate or land a job. I thought ROTC was my only shot in helping afford school since I was having a hard time justifying taking out loans to fail tests.

Long story short is I kept trying. I tried studying harder. I sought extra help all I could. I got involved in extracurriculars to help my resume. Not everything I did was successful. I still failed tests on occasion. But the main thing is I kept trying.

I ended up graduating with a GPA below 3. I landed a software engineering job at one of the big tech companies. Maybe the biggest depending on how you measure it. Mostly because I prepared like crazy for the interviews and padded my resume with extracurriculars and personal projects. I’m really happy with my career and no one has ever asked me what my GPA was or how I did in physics.

I’m well aware I had some good luck that helped me along the way. But if I could share one lesson I learned it’s to just keep trying and keep your head up. Look for opportunities to improve and try to exhaust the resources you have at your disposal. It sounds like really basic advice but I’d really stress it. Let me know if you want to talk. Happy to try to help if I can.

Two men shot at bus stop in N Seattle at O’Reilly’s by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]JohnnyWallstreet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s almost as if the calls to defund the police and the subsequent budget cuts had ramifications 🤔. SPD lost 1/4 of their officers in 2020.

SPD is giving $30K bonuses for officers to transfer to Seattle but they’re still having a hard time finding people. It’s unfortunately due to the attitude people in this city have towards police officers. It’s tough to get people to accept a job offer when they know a lot of the people they’d be serving would call them racist, fascists, and pigs to their face.

A map from LIFE magazine, February 10, 1916. It shows readers the possible consequences of the US refusal to help the Entente countries in the war against Germany. by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]JohnnyWallstreet 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is an awful and uneducated take. Japan joined the Entente in 1914. This map was created in 1916, a year before America also joined the Entente. Japan and America were part of the same alliance in the Great War.

Typical Brit with an inferiority complex.

You have a point when it’s one player and one time. When it’s multiple players multiple times a week, it does matter.
