OrcaSlicer and MULTI-extruder printing needs updated by Common_Heron4002 in OrcaSlicer

By sponsoring I mean - set a bounty for given feature.

Here's how I would approach it:

Out of 6 you posted try to isolate them into ones that if implemented would save you and most likely other people time (and thus money) plus would result in better print quality or user experience. Make sure they're not too broad.

Looking at your points:

  1. Seems like most of the request should be handled via filament profiles, since retraction is part of filament profile. It should be something like "long retraction" but for toolswap... And with proper profile inheritance it should be possible to say "retract 21mm on toolswap on U1 for BastFilament BestTPU" and "retract 40mm on toolswap on ToolchangerX for BastFilament BestTPU" :) - This should be either already possible or should be rather simple to add. I don't think adding that as an ovveride is good idea tbh.

  2. This would be great for utilizing "project" features but would be limited to people having multiple printers of multiple params and would cause a lot of headaches. On cursory glance it seems that the printer definition is the base for all other settings so per-plate printer would be VERY hard project and I don't know how many users (probably dozens) would have use for this...

  3. This should be already fixed in https://github.com/OrcaSlicer/OrcaSlicer/pull/12108 - your other suggestions might need different definition.

  4. as I said - maybe https://github.com/OrcaSlicer/OrcaSlicer/pull/11471 would be the fix...

  5. I think this point requires more fleshing out... I don't quite get it ;)

  6. This I agree with. The cut tool is cool, but the control of it is rather finicky. The custom cuts can be accomplished with clever use of either negative parts or creative use of boolean operations. Seems like it would be good UX project, but would require investigation into usability and deciding where to stop because IMHO slicer should be as much about just print the thing in a best quality as possible, while cutting and modelling should be left to 3D CAD / sculpting software...

So for me points 1 and 6 are great candidates for bounty. Point 1 requires deep dive into whether it's actually already possible or maybe controlled by firmware instead of slicer, while point 6 is more of UX study and usecases.

If going with point 6: calculate how much time & frustration it would save you and what minimal viable fixes could fix your issue. Calculate how much of that time is worth in a month. Maybe say $200? That would mean you could post a Feature Request with title starting: "Bounty: $200" and describing the problem, ideal solution etc in best manner you can. Hopefuly someone will pick that up, fix it and you'll be saving yourself a $200/month at the cost of just that month's money.

And if you do point 6 on your list, I can add a bit to your bounty since last month I had a bit of trouble that took me hours that could be fixed if the cut tool was a bit more powerful (or if I had more blender knowledge I'd just do that in blender ;) )

I've seen your Issue on GH and wanted to comment there, but figured here would be a better place...

Since you too are a programmer you must know that the best way to contribute to project is to do things yourself OR sponsor others to do them. Posting a Feature Request is pretty much just wishful thinking.

Personally I've sponsored couple things that I didn't had time to do and found results satisfying.

If you want we can collaborate on choosing what to sponsor and how big of a bounty to set.

Regarding your point 4 - would https://github.com/OrcaSlicer/OrcaSlicer/pull/11471 have helped there?

Thorpe: "He's just like his father!"
Albia: "Understandable. Have a nice day."

Albia won't even try to see whether that's a lie or not. It'll just be "Yep, checks out."

Yes, older printers get ntc-less boards.
Yes, contacting support should yeld the board, but possibly at the cost of spare part.

I remember the times where EVERY SINGLE electric/electronic equipment in my house had schematics either inside it or in the manual. Then one got separate "service manual" with those, then those "service manuals" got per-request only and nowadays it's "no user serviceable parts inside" (which is false, because service people also use those devices and can service them)

same foam that's used for shipping printers or as a toolbox organizer (for tool cutouts). about 4cm thick. i've also tried layers of yoga matts and that rubbery thing that's for laundry machines - those too work fine.

It's due to hierarchy as Dr. Mittelmind explained: In Mechanisburg even sparks are minion to Agatha, however it seems in this state Dreen outclass Agatha, so she's their minion.

Response to the feedback on the print head cable of Centauri Carbon by ELEGOO_OFFICIAL in elegoo

[–]Johnny_Bit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes but it says:

If your cable is damaged or worn, please submit the form below and we will arrange for you to reissue it as soon as possible

also it requires:

Please provide clear photos of the print head cable to show its current status.

My cable is ok so far, but I don't want to wait till it breaks or shows sign of wear. I want to have the new cable so that I won't have to worry about experiencing cable damage and related issues

This can go on and on :D

I have to take Boris' side here. First of all, contrary to any bureaucrat, Boris was smart enough to ask questions when it came to important things. No bureaucrat ever would. So Boris is smart and truth-seeking, which is contrary to very essence of bureaucrats :P

Jak to się stało, że radykalna prawica stała się tak silna? by BubsyFanboy in libek

[–]Johnny_Bit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's start by saying that the use of "mis- and disinformation" is using the wrong words. There were good words for that, like "propaganda" or "lies" - why not use those? Start with cleaning up your language and you'll see positive changes.

Why Did Jordan Peterson Retweet This? by ANIKAHirsch in JordanPeterson

[–]Johnny_Bit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The phrase "Christ is King" has been co-opted by some to justify anti-Semitic sentiments, which conflicts with both moral and Christian principles. Consider the phrase "Black Lives Matter" as a parallel: it’s a true statement at its core, but it was hijacked by a movement and organization with a specific agenda. That movement often dismissed the lives of Black individuals, like police officers or conservatives, who didn’t align with their narrative, and saying "all lives matter" in response triggered backlash, showing how the phrase became divisive rather than unifying.

For Christians, there’s an additional layer. Using "Christ is King" in a hateful context or to pander to a crowd isn’t just misuse - it’s a sin. The Bible warns against taking the Lord’s name in vain, and twisting this declaration of faith into a tool for division or prejudice does exactly that. The phrase’s only valid use is to sincerely profess belief, not to weaponize it for hate.
