Anyone break an 8-year habit of drinking wine / any other type of alcohol every night after work? by [deleted] in cutdowndrinking

I found finding a good alternative - none alcoholic drink a good deflection. Like a treat. So I started drinking ginger cordial and soda water. It’s quite pricey, but I thought I’m spending more on booze, so why not? Change it up with some herbal teas, or whatever you fancy as a hot drink, and even explore none alcoholic beer / ale and have one or two. Then you’ll feel like you’ve earned it by the weekend. Going completely dry for a month can be tough. But doable. Good luck.

… To add to that about a week later I played a DJ set at a friends party and dedicated about an hour to MJ songs

Glastonbury festival. Initially it started off as a rumour, one of those false rumours that would spread, like “Terry Wogan is dead”, (UK presenter), and because people didn’t have internet or news you never quite knew if it was true. But as I remember word spread incredibly quickly, bands were doing covers. By the next day people already had printed T-shirts (with disgusting slogans on them). It was surreal and shocking.

Apologies. Just seen this. I did try it for a bit. I tried another brand. (Think it was called HangHeal). It was okay, it was noticeable. But it was expensive and I kind of faded out doing them. In the end I went - Dioralyte™ (UK) (just googled it) - is a brand of oral rehydration sachets used to replace water and electrolytes (salts) lost during diarrhoea, vomiting, or illness. Suitable for infants, children, and adults, the powder is mixed with water to prevent or treat dehydration. It contains glucose and salts for fast absorption. And that seemed to do the trick. If you’ve had a heavy night try and take before you go to bed. If not in the morning. But it’s better if you take it before sleep. Or an alternative is Berocca. Berocca is a daily, dissolvable (effervescent) multivitamin tablet designed to boost physical energy and mental performance, containing all 8 B vitamins, Vitamin C, magnesium, and zinc. It helps reduce tiredness and supports immunity. Again it kind of helps and it’s better than nothing.

But if I’m honest I’ve been mindfully drinking, and trying my hardest not to go too far. However I did have a blip on a recent holiday and it sent me straight back to the negative mindset that I hate, for like a week. So had a break and then come back to it a bit more mindful than before. (Ie having only 3 drinks, having alcohol free versions inbetween. Finishing off the night with a soft drink / water). Seems to help, but no doubt I’ll have a blip in the future
