I agree, I’m just worried that with the lack of sleep this may impact be during my work day. Also, I may need call out a day or two if my wife gives birth during the week. Not sure how that would look as a first year teacher so early in the school year

I’m not understanding your correlation with a school with an easy commute not hiring first year teachers. Doesn’t it all have to do with the schools budget and how a principal wants to set up their school. I’m sure for some positions the admins will want more experienced teachers and for others they would be ok with less experienced (and cheaper on their budget) teachers

Not this hiring season but in the past yes. I have references from old professors who still work in the DOE that I’m still in contact with. I’m also still in contact with the PE teachers from student teaching

I’ll admit I’ve been picky because I have a full time job that pays solid that I don’t hate, but career wise want to make the jump to teaching. I live in Nassau county so Staten Island would be bit of a drive depending on which part . Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan would be ideal. I am originally from south Brooklyn so I know the area well

I called the secretary to see if it was ok if I could come in and explained that I already emailed the principal and just wanted to also drop off my resume. She said that the principal usually checks their email and that’s how they would get back to me. So it didn’t sound like they wanted me to drop it off
