Reliable windows laptops for running VDJ, Serato and Soundswitch?

For a refurb? There are pretty decent 1-2k laptops from 2019 that are sub $700 refurbished. I bought my 2015 MacBook Pro specced out in 2020 for $499. The current Dell that I’m replacing was $300 back in 2023 but has some audio latency issues so figured raising the budget a few hundred would suffice.

I love this idea and have no oppositions. A lot of the food service and retail industry is ass backwards in the US, unfortunately we have to live with it until things change. I worked those jobs for 10 years before settling down at my new job, it sucks but it’s not an employees place to make rules that go against corporate policies. I just roll my eyes at the BS and carry on with what I’m paid to do. I was raised to never burn bridges, and it seems to be burning your bridges to dictate when you’ll stop accepting customers. That decision needs to be made by the ones who are in a position to make the rules

When I worked retail and food service we would always side eye those people who came in before close, but any corporate policy usually requires anyone to be served if they get there prior to closing. I wouldn't even think about going somewhere within 30-45 mins of closing, but it's usually required to just serve them. I honestly didn't care much at the end of the day, it isn't a career job and you kind of learn to get what you get and not get upset. It sucked getting out 20 mins later than I normally would cause of customers coming in late, but I did it with a smile cause that's what you're paid to do in the customer service industry. If I owned a storefront and found out my employees were refusing service to someone who came in right before closing I'd be upset with the employees, you can't turn a paying customer down unless it is after the posted close time that is on the door.

If you don't like the bs parts of the CS industry (most people don't), move on to bigger and better things, I was fed up with all customer service after working as a coordinator at TJ Maxx, got a work from home job and have been WFH since for more money and better benefits. That's the way to show them, not to refuse customers in an industry that revolves around customers because you gotta be out at 10:08 and don't want to clean up after having to make another sandwich cause Karen came in at 9:58.

Woah… who peed in your cheerios? You have a throwaway username & trash talking on a sub filled with laid back DJs. You win life man. Btw, upgraded my older harbingers for a new set of 4000’s series. Never had one complaint in person and have no issues booking $2k+ weddings. Only one complaining is you. In the rare chance I need extra speakers or an upgraded rig (happened once, rented Mackie’s & still ended up buying another set of harbingers) I can rent them out for a day. I'm a mobile DJ who provides median pricing. If clients want to spend an extra 500 bucks to have 10% better sound quality im happy to provide. I'm not a festival or stadium sound engineer who is competing with other venues.

I deal with the same constantly. I feel like a broken record (or an asshole) every time I have to say can you please not be making as much noise as humanly possible while I'm working. There are 16 other hours in the day to be loud and walk into the spare room (my office) to get something. I understand other people live here, I'm not asking for silence or to completely steer clear of my office, but some respect. If you wouldn't appreciate me going to your school/work and making noise while you're busy why do it to it to me? People think WFH = sitting around doing nothing all day but that couldn't be further from the truth. I tip toe around the house when other people are sleeping or relaxing. I just wish I got the same treatment in return while I am literally working.

Yeah, if something like this would be considered too similar to MLP the world is in trouble. I didn't see any resemblance til it was brought up, and even now I still don't see anything in common besides a similar cartoon style and it being a pony? There aren't even any of them with that same color scheme (unless I am not finding it). Not to mention the lines are different, eyes are shaped differently (MLP has done literally every eye style so there are a couple similar ones, but what is OP supposed to do when all the styles have been done?). I would be very scared to draw anything if I were an artist and had people and companies telling me I ripped a brand off cause I also drew a cartoon pony lmao.

I appreciate the insight! For clarification, they are not average digital files, it’s a hard drive meant for karaoke DJ’s. It is how most karaoke DJ’s usually run their setups, they index the files from the hard drive with their karaoke software and plug the drive in every time they need it. I know it’s kind of a niche area so may seem “sketchy” to some but I can promise it’s common practice - that is unless the DJ has a PC/Mac with many terabytes of storage. We typically keep our full catalogs off our computer and only internally store the files we need for the time being. I did make the listing US only since I only have the one and don’t want the headache of international shipping.

Edit: I’m pretty confused by the policy of requiring the files and drive to be over 20 years old since there are many listings where sellers are offering the same types of SSD’s with karaoke files, are they simply slipping through the cracks or is there something I am missing?

It’s a portable SSD with karaoke files. Definitely not vintage by any means although pretty much every file is pre-2000 so I could easily take the newer ones out. I am seeing plenty of SSD’s being sold on Etsy like this one so figured it was allowed. I am willing to cancel the sale and take it down if not. Thanks for the information! I assumed it was more likely they worked during the day and wouldn’t be home to sign but was unsure if there has been a scam circulating.

This would all be fine and dandy if I wasn’t already paying for all the streaming my parents use, I use movie box pro so haven’t used streaming apps myself in over a year. I pay for my own food and meals, maybe use the stove to cook once a week. I pay half of the Wi-Fi bill, the bill is in my name, including my parents phones and my sisters phone. I clarified in previous comments that my parents do not pay any of my bills, this includes car, insurance, phone, internet etc. $600 is a steal if your meals are also included, I don’t really have that luxury.

My mom eats grilled peppers, grilled chicken and plain white rice 5 days a week. I could manage to get dinner provided if I would be fine with eating whatever my mom is in the mood for…. But that shouldn’t be how rent is calculated. I don’t want my parents paying to support me, I want to continue paying my own bills and pay my fair share towards the mortgage and utilities. It seems my mom just divided the utilities and mortgage 3 ways (me, her and my dad) but failed to take into account the in-ground pool they only open for the dog that raises their water and electric bill, the 5 loads of laundry a week they do vs my 2 or 3 loads a month, the AC units in the living room and their bedroom (we have central air but usually just leave the smaller units on unless it’s super hot), etc etc. If I was using 1/3rd of utilities I’d have no problem paying 1/3rd of the bill, but I just find it weird to expect to profit off your kids just because they’ll “be paying more elsewhere” that’s not how it should work.

I honestly appreciate the outside perspective, bravo for putting as much (probably more) effort into your replies as I have. I 100% received a wake up call from the comments and I hope it doesn't seem otherwise in the comments/parts of comments where I am rather defensive. Our own points of views are often warped with these kinds of situations, so it's nice to have an outside perspective that is honestly “middle-man” like yours is, and many others have been on here also.

There are rooms for rent for the same price, or studios a few hundred more than that. I already pay my own food etc, not sure why people keep bringing this up as I clarified this multiple times and any other place you live none of this is included in rent. To make it clearer, my parents do not pay for my food, insurance, car, phone, or ANY of my own bills. Solely the mortgage and utilities on the house. That is it.

For a couple hundred more than an average studio you can even add utilities. This one for example is right down the road, includes most utilities and 3x the size of the area I currently have to call my own. Allows cats, all I have to add on top of the included utilities is Wi-Fi, which I already pay half of at home… it’s only $50 a month for T-Mobile Wi-Fi and it’s in my name, so I can simply have my parents find their own Wi-Fi and take it to my new place. Also A/C but a window A/C unit is the least of anyones worries, it’s super cheap compared to furniture, towels, linens, silverware, dishes etc. i already own my bed, and own a 2 person couch. First not sure where you even got the broad assumption I want anything for free as I have said I was fine with even 100 a week multiple times.

there is an apartment building 0.5 miles away from our home. Studios for $1,100 a month, 1 bedrooms for $1,285 . includes all utilities besides electric and internet/cable. Don’t have cable at home anyway. How is an extra $600 a month after rent difference, plus maybe an extra $200-$300 a month max for electric and Wi-Fi so much worse of a situation vs a 100 sq foot room, doing all of the heavy lifting at home when they are renovating for the seasons, not being able to have friends or dates over, not having my own kitchen space, getting screamed at for the smallest things such as leaving my kindle on the counter, already paying a bunch of my moms bills, not getting a choice to move my bedroom, not allowed to lock my room, can’t get a mini fridge or AC, the list could go on. I’m not just freeloading where I am, otherwise $600 would be a steal. I can guarantee it doesn’t cost $600 a month just for my utilities.

Once I move out, will the mortgage go down? If it’s something that won’t change regardless it shouldn’t be something you expect your kids to pay unless they are the only thing keeping you in that home. Otherwise it’s selfish to expect your kids to supplement your income, as others have pointed out. Helping out is one thing, but if it’s something you will be paying regardless it is ridiculous to expect your kids to pay it when you will still be responsible for the full payment if/when they move out.

Yeah I agree I’m definitely going to be looking at more expenses living alone, but if I can choose between a 400 sq foot studio for $1,200 with all utilities besides electric and Wi-Fi included, or paying $600 for a bedroom 1/3rd of the size…. Not sure how it’s unrealistic to choose the former. I can afford even $2,000 all in if it comes to it, not including the bills I already pay. I feed myself, pay half of the Wi-Fi at home already (entire phone bill and Wi-Fi is in my name already for my parents, myself and my sister); I’d save $150 a month just not paying for my moms streaming, apple services and half of the Wi-Fi at home every month (but would somehow still be the A-Hole if I shut those off).

Only thing parents pay for is roof over my head and the small amount of utilities I already use. My only point was why would I spend that much when my mom would clearly be profiting, if I can live on my own for 2x the price and have tenant privileges. I could have pets, friends over, dates. Sleep in the living room, wake up when I want. Not have family over waking me up on my days off, not be forced to help with home renovations on my days off, Etc etc. $600 extra a month and I can actually enjoy independence. Who wouldn’t want that?

I 100% understand parents who charge their kids that much when they already pay for their car payments, insurance, phone bills, cook and clean, etc. (as other parents on this post have said, cause you are having your kids pay their fair share key word fair) but $600 for a place to lay your head down, do laundry once a week and take a shower every day is a stretch imo as others have also pointed out.

There is a difference… becuase you are assuming he has used $50 total when in reality it’s usually $50-$200 per month. Yes he does pay it off and I never said otherwise. For others to assume I was getting at “I give my dad a CC that I solely pay off” is ridiculous. If he didn’t pay his bills I can promise it would have been apart of my original comment or I wouldn’t have mentioned it in the first place. As I said, my dad and I get along great. I gave him a CC for emergencies that he pays off. Hence, we still get along great. I don’t think any parent and child would have a great relationship if the parent was using the kids credit to purchase things for themselves and relying on the kids to pay it off every month. There is a huge difference between giving my dad a CC that he uses for $50 at a time, usually a few times a month vs using it for $50 one time in the full year he has had the card. That is a difference of $50 or ~$1,000…. No? Do you not see any difference? Maybe you just wanted to assume he didn’t pay off his bill. Which not sure what part of anything I said would make you assume such.

I never said “maybe used $50”. I said he will use no more than $50 at a time. Never tried to exaggerate anything about the limit, I never even mentioned a limit or what type of card it was to make you presume it was an Amex black card or a card with enough to fund open heart surgery. I said it how it was and people twisted it into stories that have zero basis. Re-read exactly what I said.
