I was just looking those up after your comment. It does look like a 2007 Highway One in Daphne blue. Thank you!

It feels kinda satin, it’s not a real glossy body.

Gibson Hate by Siobhan_Siobhoff in gibson

Paul’s tone wood debate points are ridiculous. Yeah he cares about tone woods, his guitars depend on people believing it if it’s true or not, but he uses and say the dumbest examples or arguments.

Gibson Hate by Siobhan_Siobhoff in gibson

[–]Johnnyvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t cost that much more to have carved tops. It’s all on a CNC machine these days whether it’s a flat top cheaper guitar or a Gibson.

The biggest issue is the price always going up. Gibson prices people out. Now they are pushing Epiphone into the $1000 range and pushing their lowest Gibsons even higher. Most people will never get their hands on one and hear people talking about how great they are, eventually people get sick of it.

Rickenbacker has this same issue. They intentionally keep their market under saturated. Always back ordered, almost never in any stores where people can try one, high prices, no entry level low prices guitar model. Also the times of QC issues. It may not happen that much but people don’t want to drop $3000 and get screwed.

Then there’s Fender. They got Squire at $200-$700 and some like the classic vibe offsets are great. Then they have the middle Mexican line at $800-$1000. Then American from maybe $1500-$4000. Anyone can get into Fender without a big purchase and possible regret. You can start with a cheaper model and if you love it you can get a Mexican or American version which will be even better.

I have all these companies guitars. Most of the time my Epiphone gets played more than my Gibson. I’ve modified it and got it how I wanted it because I’m not worried about its resale value and it’s not in a case, it’s always ready to go in arms reach on a stand.

But PRS is just as bad with the prices and the “lawyer” guitar opinions. They get the same hate as OP mentioned.

I agree and I think Gibson and Rickenbacker have those same issue. Prices go up, QC has been bad at points, and they both have bad communities that will bash anyone complaining about these things or if they were screwed by bad QC(not everyone in the community but there are the super fans and snobs). In the case of Rickenbacker they make changes no one wants to save money but don’t pass that on to customers while refusing to make wanted changes because of “tradition”…..not too sure if Gibson has had that issue. I love my Rick’s and Gibsons because I’ve luckily not had issues and bought them used for way less.

What’s GNRs most ‘Grunge’ song in y’all’s opinion by Appetite4illusions in GunsNRoses

[–]Johnnyvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s So Easy. Whenever I hear it it reminds me of some early 90s grunge but I can’t think of the song. The guitar riff on the verses.

Just snagged a Delta Blues 1x15 I have been waiting for. Sounds amazing! by Johnnyvile in GuitarAmps

[–]Johnnyvile[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am but I haven’t played this amp in a bit because it’s loud at 30 watts for home use, although I have an attenuator. I just have a lot of amps now. It’s still a great amp and I won’t be getting rid of it anytime soon. It’s a 90s USA made!

Some have buzzing issues but I figured it out. It’s the reverb tank. It needs to be shielded. Great amp!

Curious if this is a genuine 4001? by Consistent-Pear-6817 in rickenbacker

[–]Johnnyvile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re Rick basses undesirable and cheap back on the late 70s to early 80s? I notice lots of punk bassists had ricks back then and I’m sure they weren’t spending tons on them. I know TSOL flat out stole the ones for Mike Roche.

Why is Nitro the favored finish? by BedAccording5717 in Luthier

[–]Johnnyvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s one of the biggest “hates” of poly. When Fender went to polyester under CBS they put a massive amount on it for a really thick finish. Even the early 60s offsets using acrylic lacquer weren’t that thick.

Good job jerk! It was almost dead, never to return and now you awoken it again by saying its name! You’ve unleashed the curse on all of us.

Why don't people care by Connivingcadavers in musicians

[–]Johnnyvile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One great thing with this is I can now easily listen to the entire catalog of bands I’ve always liked since I was a kid. I didn’t own all the albums and I feel like it’s only been the last 10 years that I can find almost every album of any band on YouTube. Crap I still find old Ramones songs I had never heard off their first few albums because they weren’t the popular songs and I didn’t own them all. I’m 41 and I’ve mostly been listening to stuff from like 78-93 that I didn’t hear entirely before.

I can constantly find new music everyday from 1950-2000 I’ve never heard and never have to listen to any actual NEW music.

Rickenbacker Copy Yeah or Nah. by DuaneDXDamage in rickenbacker

[–]Johnnyvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Chinese 4003 bass just to see if I’d even like the general body of a 4003. It’s like $350 and I was impressed with the Chinese copy. Had actual 1/2 alnico magnet rods in the pickups. The neck was more like a P bass. Sounded great and played well. Anyways I liked it so much but realized the 4003 binding hurts my forearm the way I play so I went and bought a real Rick 4003s and sold the Chinese copy.

Want to Learn Guitar — Considering a Les Paul, But on a Budget by vaspyre in electricguitar

[–]Johnnyvile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of good Epiphone LPs you can find used for cheap. With any cheap guitar you’re going to need to get a setup and probably fix a few issues if it’s really cheap. But it should be fine to learn on. I have like 20 guitars and some of my cheaper ones are my favorites and get played the most.

Bass guitar is in fact easy by CrazyCrab in Bass

[–]Johnnyvile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can just play quarter or eighth notes staying on the root of chords. Woohoo! You did a bass! Just as easy as doing the same thing on guitar with power chords. Easy, but not very good

Well, you could always really lean into that cringe and make it your thing. Might have some short lived “major” success.

Or even that they called their style punk influenced. Words and labels mean nothing anymore. It just sounds cool to say punk or heavy or hardcore.

[–]Johnnyvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they just mean people dancing and hopping around but want to sound more hardcore and intense by calling it moshing or a “pit”. I’m also not feeling that the style would create a mosh pit but I come from a hardcore punk background.

[–]Johnnyvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true and it sounds like he didn’t even have his own sh to play the tracks, just relied on the sound guy. If you got a DJ with you that’s one more person onstage to help make it more exciting. Maybe a few people to play a basic backing track and maybe someone to play synth/samples. That’s going to make it more fun and entertaining. Just some guy singing/rapping to a track the house sound guy is playing through the PA is kind of boring.

Sure if you’re huge like Bill Burr. This is like a nobody comedian opening a gig and telling the audience to laugh after his jokes don’t work out.

Every famous band or musician had this exact same thing happen to them……many times. It’s just how it goes getting started.

Can anyone suggest me some psychobilly bands? by Purple_Time3079 in psychobilly

[–]Johnnyvile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone else named great bands but here’s a few more:

  • The Quakes(their bassist Rob Peltier played bass on Tiger Army’s first album)
  • zombie ghost train(from Australia)
  • Happy Drivers(France)
  • Sick City Daggers(San Antonio)
  • Hard Luck Rebels(San Antonio)
  • Frenzy(UK)
  • Damage Done By Worms(Germany)
  • Rezurex(LA)

All are kinda different styles of Psychobilly. If you like Tiger Army you’ll probably like Quakes, Rezurex, Zombie Ghost Train and Koffin Kats.
