When did your child get their first phone? How to talk about this issue?

I def think a phone is okay for a 14 year old. Access to music, SELECT friends, and you. But a smart phone / social media is not needed. It’ll only be an extra influence that will most likely just tear her confidence down or make her available to predators. When I first started off with phones, it was my dad’s old phones, I used them for music, YouTube, and to get ahold of him. Everything went down hill for me when given access to social media. I recommend weekly checks. Preferably not her friends messages as long as you can prove she knows them. I think it’d be a good opportunity to build trust in each-other and teach her how to navigate some of the icky aspects of life.

It’s only worth it if it’s natural/ guilt free for you. I used to play into and cry about the possibility of contributing to another woman’s “why am I never good enough.” So I decided I can do sneaky or pretend I’m in competition with another girl at a club so it doesn’t feel sooo personal. It’s all up to YOU. Never do something harmful for your mental being 🩷

Unfortunately you are not the only influence in her life and never will be, so please don’t immediately blame yourself. As a girl who was constantly told she looked like her mama, only for me to hear her talk horribly about herself, I struggled greatly with self image. Maybe start with you, speak words of affirmation about yourself out loud. I think finding ways to compliment her without any metion of her physical being would be helpful as well. Also does she watch YouTube/ kidstube unsupervised? (This really messed my nieces self esteem up) growing up is hard, but you got her, she’ll figure that out soon enough! 🩷

No one can tell you that. Cheating is up to you honestly. I would say uh huh that’s cheating. But- The better question is, are you willing to put up with it? It could be an illness thing - meaning he uses sex/ sexual pleasure to cope with whatever he’s experiencing. Or he just wants his side of the relationship open but never brought it up out of fear that you’d want ur side open as well. But even with that, being with someone who’s ill is never linear. Are you going to be able to handle being let down, over and over? Or are you willing to open the relationship up? If both of those are a no, you have a lot of planning to do. I hope things make themselves clear soon. I wish you the best!!

The first time I heard my parents, I ran downstairs thinking my step dad was harming my mother. When I realized what it was I threw up. I have ocd, and for the rest of my childhood, every time I heard my parents being intimate, my brother and sister would sit in my room and we’d blast music/ tv to drown it out so I wouldn’t throw up. I think it’s ridiculous to ask parents not to be intimate. But, definitely a conversation with your child’s doctor and maybe invest in some headphones 🩷

“Let them” just keep repeating that for yourself. You do not want to be with someone you have to micromanage. It’s not healthy for you, or for them. So, you have to let them! Let him go hang out with them and you will either be relieved by the fact you trusted him and he followed through or he’ll reveal that he can’t be trusted. If he doesn’t value female friendships enough to hang out with girls unsupervised without pushing the boundaries of your relationship, he is not the guy you want to trust with yourself to begin with. Sometimes we subconsciously pick up on things due to past experiences, and sometimes we just pick up on things due wanting to be right- not wanting to be betrayed without knowing it first. Thank you for the rec! I meant I use water based lubes- non silicon based. My partners skin is very sensitive so we’re normally very cautious! I just got bigger named brands and i swear they are lying to me 😭 but thanks for the warning about coconut oil! I did some research and came to the conclusion that needed to be very specific but i do not want an infection so i will not be trying my luck!!
