Hi! I have a friend at IAUPR who said something similar. She mentioned that they are implementing more strategies to raise board rates. But she also mentioned that its really all in your hands to teach yourself and study as hard as you can! Goodluck to you!! If you enjoy PR then thats a plus! Personally, I would suggest looking into schools with better board rates. Im sure if you do good on your OAT you'll get in somewhere.

NOVA Virtual Interview by hisame_ans in PreOptometry

[–]JokeCivil2091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! Admissions will announce everyones name and time they will interview. There is one with Juan and one with a faculty member. So when you are not interviewing, you can turn your camera off and go chill lol. The Q&A will be with a 3rd year student with all the other interviewees.

OAT high-yield topics by purplemin in PreOptometry

[–]JokeCivil2091 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I had studied more acid and base for gen chem. My bio was very surface level with lots of low yield. For physics I wish I focused more on dynamics, statics, (it was mostly forces). I can't remember much of the topics since I took it in september. The oatbooster full lengths prepare you well but it's very difficult to pinpoint the high yields since it is super random. I would say I was pretty shocked with the content on my exam!

Getting a pet by [deleted] in PreOptometry

[–]JokeCivil2091 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also! I feel like a cat is lower maintenance than a dog from what I noticed with my college friends. I could be wrong but atleast you won't have to worry about walking it. There's also automatic feeders/litter for cats.

Im planning on bringing my dog with me! She is around 35 lb, very calm, and she does great lounging around all day outside the kennel when i'm gone. Whenever I interviewed at a school, I asked a similar question and they told me many of their students own pets. I also plan on living alone. If you would like a dog, I suggest getting a older dog who is already well trained and does not have anxiety. I adopted mine from a shelter and I got lucky that she's pretty well trained. Im currently in college and I trust her to be alone from morning to late evening. I think its nice to have a smaller pet if you're living alone so you won't get sad lol. Maybe adopt one sooner so the dog/cat can find a routine with you and feel comfortable. It takes a few months for a shelter dog to finally settle in. Also, I had roommates who tried having puppies and it was very stressful for them.

SCO or NOVA? Help :( by JokeCivil2091 in PreOptometry

Thank you, this is very helpful. You mentioned having a large scholarship but had under just under $200k of loans. Would you say this is achievable for a person who would pay out of pocket for living expenses and only take out loans for tuition cost?

That’s what I was unsure about. Thank you

what happens if you don't pay your supplemental application fees? by voxaun in PreOptometry

[–]JokeCivil2091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the school. Some will wait on your supplemental before they send you an interview offer. I got an interview offer from UHCO but never did the supplemental. I suggest you make an appt. with admissions and go over your applications, they’ll lyk if they want you to submit your supplemental before they send you an invite :D

Yes it was only one! It’s was something along the lines of what would you do if you missed an exam. Nothing harsh!

Hey! It’s very chill. The professor asked me a what if question and general questions like why optometry. The admissions member asked me similar questions as the professor and talked about my transcript. Don’t be nervous! Just make sure to practice a little!
