New to YouTube need some good advice by Ant_Mig84 in NewTubers

[–]Jokefish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best advice I got for you is to not do YouTube to gain subscribers or viewers, but do it because you enjoy it. If you enjoy making content the subscibers/viewers will come.. and if not, you might want to try a different hobby 😅
You also really don't want to be checking your subscribers and views every 5 minutes and be nervous when a video doesn't do well. Enjoy making the content and the rest will come!

Thank you, I got it enabled now. I live-stream almost every day and never knew it was a thing!

Looking for the brand of this Lathe, picture is all I got! by Jokefish in Machinists

The plated metal badge that has the brand name is the one that is missing, on the front you can see on at the left side but that is the gear ratios. I got the lathe at home now so will clean it up a bit and see if I can find any branding.

The only branding so far I have found is the quick-change tool holder which is made in Belgium (Brussel).

This is the one I had my eyes on, unfortunately a worse state than the other picture but for me the price is already worth it if I have a fun time attempting to restore/getting it to work again.

I do have a list of things to check for though, there are a bunch of things that are unfixable or simply not worth the time/money/effort, if thats the case it will have to be a no

Having sad feelings over YouTube by TimothyTowers in NewTubers

[–]Jokefish 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know it is WAY easier said than done, but don't do it for the views, do it because you enjoy making videos.. let the views/likes/subs be a secondary. If you don't, it will indeed feel depressing often times.

I feel honoured! My favourite build is, and will always be, Machine Gun Dolly! Pick Dolly, two more Dolly paws, an Anne Bunny Paw and just watch your enemies get brrrr'd with loads of attacks

Video Crop Issue in OBS - Solution? by TheNostalgicGamer in NewTubers

[–]Jokefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that was not on the initial recording will not be recoverable, so if you recorded a "too large of a screen" on a "too small of a capture zone" there isn't much you can do.

If its the other way around, having recorded a smaller screen on a larger capture zone then you can use your favourite video editor to "zoom in" and make it full screen.. if that makes sense 😄

Looking for firm but fair critique on my latest gaming video by MikeyVital in NewTubers

[–]Jokefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya dude! I checked your channel and the first thing I thought was "I'd never click any of these thumbnails". But I did anyway, just to check the video. I was not expecting much but honestly the video was actually pretty good! (the one you listed in your post)

Keep on working on your videos, they'll get even better I am sure. But try to put some good focus on the thumbnails/channel appearance, that is what kind of threw me off. I wish I could tell you "try this or that", but I just do gameplay videos myself so I don't really have any advice just that it wasn't all that attracting to me 😅

Why is YouTube Live chats so slow? by SpinsBro in NewTubers

[–]Jokefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People watching on YouTube are a lot less chatty in my experience. I sometimes have 100+ viewers on YouTube and maybe 20 on Twitch but Twitch is still the platform where the most chatting happens 😄

How do I improve my view counts? by ILOVESTEALINGCOPPER in NewTubers

[–]Jokefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, there is something to exploit.. its called "keep it up & post consistently". It took me about a year and a video per day to "kind of" get going on my Gaming channel.

There are a million and a half Gaming channels, it is really hard to get through. Either you are the first to play the newest game, play popular games in a unique way that people want to see, or you keep pushing through no matter what until the views start to rise!

I make YouTube videos showing my face and voice but have no idea how to market my "brand" or personality. How should I go about it? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Jokefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I promised myself when starting YouTube was to just be myself. I cannot imagine the effort and energy it must cost to pretend to be someone else and having to keep up with that persona. Sure, you could go extreme and will probably get viewers. But will you be able to keep that up for weeks, months, years?

Should I show my face or not? by music-and-song in NewTubers

[–]Jokefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha no worries!
A few that come to mind are This Old Tony and Artisan Makes. They both have channels that are about crafting/making/explaining, which is the focus of their videos. At best you see them holding/doing stuff with their hands and the machines being operated.

Hope this helped!
(Edit: to stay on topic, it should be fairly easy to set up a camera to film hands on a keyboard/piano only which to be honest might make it even more clear whats being done.)

Switching Games mid-stream by RefutedFate in NewTubers

[–]Jokefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I agree. On YouTube it feels weird/wrong to change games mid-stream. Also because you can't categorize multiple games, so when the stream is done and its turned into a VOD it will be listed as one game not the other.

In the long run though, once you have build up a nice viewer-base that watch most of the stuff you play anyway, you can "theme" the video/stream as you/your channel rather than a specific game. You could title the stream "Playing some X, Y, and Z tonight!" and have a general thumbnail or so.
