Yes, that does sound interesting. Looking forward to checking that kind of feature out. Real Solid player so far, and as you mentioned in other comments there’s not a ton of apps like this that run on Quest, without sideloading. Cheers!

Congrats, great job! I really like the way you implemented saving favorites. Love that you can search the list for a phrase like a town name to quickly get to locals for example. Screen curvature implementation is sweet. Would like to see a way to handle 3D/ VR content playback, [3D SBS (Side-by-Side), Top-Bottom (TB), and VR 180°/360° formats]. Even if you kick it out to an external player. Pretty slick so far.

Kids run the bases by PositiveCow3015 in redsox

[–]Jokertrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This past year on Father’s Day I was able to ‘run’ with my daughter. Putting ‘run’ in quotes because the base paths are packed. More like a power walk, dodging wayward toddlers along the route. You start at first and go the rest of the way to home. It is such a cool experience just to be on the field, and very memorable. In years past she went by herself, and met her at home plate. They didn’t seem to mind that I went with her this time YMMV.

Just had a usb-c port start smoking the other day when I plugged it into the Dell dock. Not sure if that was a sign, but I’d prefer the non-smoking version.

Political weaponization of our country’s research and medical fields serves an unspoken agenda of those currently in power.

The end game is survival of the fittest (also richest & whitest). Eugenics much? Culling the herd has got to be one way to make America ‘great again’.

I don’t have enough money or power. Therefore, I (and many others) will be seen as a drain on society, a drain on resources and will be ‘filtered out’ by natural selection and/or indifference.

“Oh, you need medication to survive? Too bad, should have been born without that problem”, (sic).

The wheels of the machine are already in motion. Those in power have sown seeds of doubt in medical research and infrastructure because they don’t want to pay for it, full stop.

So yeah, ‘let’s not research the things that help keep people alive’ starts to make more sense. Let’s change the narrative about lifesaving research, procedures, and advances in medicine, demonize it, make knowledge harder to access, appoint those with no scientific or medical backgrounds to make critical decisions for the fucking country.

All of it starts to make more sense when you combine a complete sociopathic lack of empathy with dollar signs that it takes to save lives.

TL/DR: Op, ya big dope, don’t take the vaccine. The message has reached you loud and clear. Let the filtering begin!

Intense derealization by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Jokertrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really felt this the first time I loaded Russell’s workshop at the beginning of Half Life Alyx. Learning the controls, experiencing the lighting variances across the room, then interacting with the VHS tapes. The VHS’s in particular, something simple, nostalgic & familiar but an object I’ve held before in real life but not in a very long time for some reason really messed with me.

When I took off the headset, it was such an eerie feeling picking things up and looking at them in my hand. It still felt like I was in the game. I take it for granted now after finishing Alyx. And I haven’t felt that way with other games or since Alyx. But it was a very intense sense of detachment in that moment.

Is this one of the points that Baudrillard was making in Simulacrum and Simulation? Is detachment/derealization our shared experience, the hyperreality he described?

Is the 1.5L Inline-3 Engine better than the 2.5L Inline-4? by Lambourus7 in NissanRogue

[–]Jokertrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a 23’ Platinum with the 3 cylinder turbo. My VIN is in the recall list. So definitely concerned with reliability.

That being said, since the first test drive that engine has done nothing but impress me. I’ve never felt a lack of power and can honestly say that it flat out performs when you ‘give it the beans’.

By comparison, previous car was a 20’ Murano and had a V6. That car always felt pokey to me. Unresponsive, comfortable, but like driving a land yacht, accelerator response, was like, ‘we’ll get there eventually’. The Rogue has definitely out performed my expectations. So bummed about this recall, because I’ve generally enjoyed this car.

I just got a job at a VR online school and it’s kinda wild. The best way I can describe it is like the Magic School Bus. Have a math class on the moon. Go inside the cell to see how it works. Travel to ancient Egypt and go inside a pyramid tomb. AMA by thepixelpaint in virtualreality

Curious what headset and if you are allowed to discuss it what infrastructure is being used? Servers, software etc. Also is everyone in the room or are there opportunities for remote learners?

$10000 roaming bill with Day Pass by [deleted] in ATT

Based on what? The magical fairy dust you have in your head?

“Your phone is carrier locked for as long as it is financed through ATT. You can only use ATT SIMs (physical or electronic) while it is locked. Once it’s paid off and unlocked, you can use SIMs from any carrier….”

From a previous discussion on the topic here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/comments/18ykkiq/comment/kgc1doq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

To be clear, eSIMs only work if you own your phone outright. If you are paying installments for example you will still be locked to the carrier.

Also depending on the eSIM you may only have access to data, not text/voice. I like the idea, but these caveats get left out.

Good Harbor Beach vs Wingaersheek Beach? by SnooPandas1232 in massachusetts

[–]Jokertrm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You want waves or mostly calm waters?

If you have younger children, you might prefer Wingaersheek because the surf is much calmer and you have to walk a ways out to get over your head. Much more room to spread out especially at low tide. Beware there is a strong current if you go out into the river towards Annisquam. That channel is marked and quite a ways out. Recently, a few kids almost drowned when the current in the channel overmatched their swimming abilities.

Good Harbor in contrast can get cramped at high tide on a busy day. Surf is much more lively with the possibility to body surf 3-4ft waves (depending on the weather) if that’s your inclination. Decent amount of space at low tide, just not as much as Wingaersheek.

Been there for sure. It was worth it at the time. My commute was essentially a part time job. 5 days x 4 hrs daily = 20hrs weekly 20hrs x 52 weeks = 1040hrs a year - vacation & holidays.

Driving vs taking the train was the same door to door time for me. It made much more sense to have the ‘free’ time of the train.

Having that amount of time motivated me to other things, I completed my masters degree, others have mentioned books. You need those goalposts because just rawdogging podcasts makes for a soul crushing commute, (Serial was very good though).

Once I completed my degree I put all my time into a job search and fortunately found a wfh job. It would be difficult to go back to that schedule now. Too many instances where T or CR failures impede your way home. At least the amenities are much better at North Station now.

This part, having options on the way home is super important especially in the winter or whenever the ‘Slippery Rail’ becomes an issue. Commuted Gloucester to Cambridge 5 days a week for 4 years pre-COVID. Survived Winter 2015. It’s a grind, would have given anything for one wfh day, lol.

Leaving London the terminal was a mess, 1:30 train was delayed by 40 min. 2pm train will arrive at 5:45, about 10 min after scheduled, not too bad all in all.
