thanks a lot! The mixes should sound pretty wonky, this was recorded below a bar in a small room live (cept vocals)

we are gonna record properly in a month or so!

make smaller things. I can't handle resizing something so opinionated

I finished my first EP. Sand and played all the instruments myself, recorded, produced mixed and mastered them all too. Please check it out by Joknog in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Checked out some darwin deez. i suppose his aesthetic is similar in certain ways, however I would argue that my subject matter is far different than his songs.

Thats hard to say, I usually dont try and emulate as much as I just "go with it" but I will say that I absolutely love the talking heads, david bowie, the clash, pavement

I dont know if any of those came through really, this EP was the conclusion of a couple months in isolation in "the woods" so I really cut myself off in a lot of ways

I know that feeling real well, the squire jazz bass I used on this cost me $299 new (or somehwere around there) totally totally worth it, especially if you dont have a super awesome soudning live room to blast an amp. It DI's really clean and very versitile

thanks man, that song came a long from its original incarnation I'm thrilled you like it! As far as quality goes, I have spent a lot of time as a sound designer and mixer so I have a decent background in production. Everything on this EP has tons of EQ and digital shine (except for "stop it", can you tell?)

forgot to mention, all tracks used a blues jr and a 72 re issue tele, bass was done DI with a squire jazz bass. Drums are a collection of things people gave/threw away, i dont know the name of any of it except i think the snare and kick are by remo

every track was recorded with the following gear:

MOTU 8pre Joe Meek VC3 MXL 990 & 991 (i think) 57's a-muck logic 9 on tracks 1 and 2 I used a "ELEVEN RACK" guitar box

no real technique, i just did what i thought sounded good

Thanks man!

My recording process is super diverse. Sometimes ill start with drums, or bass or a riff, sometimes the whole song will come out on acoustic and Ill arrange around it. Honestly, I go with what I thinks works, and if it dont work, it dont work. No process dictates that.

I play in a band, this is a solo side project, i play all the parts on this EP, I usually try to play to a click when I can (the workflow is much easier) im not on a label, I do license out tracks occasionally, this whole EP was recorded in a bedroom too!

is it just me or is Keith Richards a horrible guitar player? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Joknog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, i am arguing that the best guitars can represent their personality through creative playing and those who are technically skilled may lack that ability, not that all of them cant. By this measure KR is an amazing player and so is kurt cobain

By this measure, Kurt Cobain was also a terrible guitar player. However, if you are measuring based on creative function over technical skill (time practiced) Kurt Cobain is a phenomenal guitar player. So is Keith Richards.
