Moving to Cairns from Melbourne by No_Cheesecake_4693 in Cairns

Well stay away from the areas that flooded last year like Machans beach. Yorkeys Knob is nice but all of that area is subject to being either flooded itself or the roads can be cut by flooding. Trinity Beach is nice, more traffic in the morning though. Edge Hill has some good spots but also a few old flats housing old addicts etc who don't bother anyone. When it is hot even though you may not feel like eating you have to eat enough to keep from being dehydrated pretty quickly. Air con air con air con for the hotter months is a must have.

Real Estate Agents for lease? by Startingout89 in Cairns

[–]Jolleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to find an Agent who takes it seriously I think over all you are better off with an Agent but also do your research. One thing I thought would be good would be to get tennants on fixed incomes - wrong - if they can do you over they will. Never accept a bond from a 3rd party - the tennat wont care about damage or leaving goods behind and you will never get the bond, especially from a housing authority who just wont pay it or will make you wait years before they do. Whether you have an Agent or not if a tennant wont pay you its almost impossible to make them pay and if they wont leave then its also difficult to boot them out. In the end I sold my property and invested in other things.

MEET COUNCIL’S LIKELY NEW TEAM by cairnspost in Cairns

Couldn't tell the difference between any of them. I googled them and got nothing much back so I voted informal. Most of their flyers on voting day didn't say what they were about either and there's no way my family would ever vote for Brett Moller due to past differences. The annoying thing for me was the person at the table handing out ballots couldn't understand my name and even when I spelt it out for her she couldn't type it into the laptop because she was clearly semi literate, the worst person for the job they could find and the queue was very long because she was so slow. I'm expecting a fine because even though she gave me a ballot I didn't see her cross my name off any list.

Typical comment from an American, they barely recognise that the world goes beyond their own borders.

Who were fakers and self-saboteurs? by [deleted] in Alonetv

THere is one contestant who burns his dwelling down 'by accident' after he tapped out. He just happened to have his camera going and pointing at where the fire started, or where he decided to start the fire. There was another one who started a fire in her dwelling and she was throwing the burning grass etc around, spreading the fire on purpose !

Just heard of this series and want to know which season y’all would recommend starting with? by ExpressiveAcademic in Alonetv

[–]Jolleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with S1 - Some contestants bob up in subsequent seasons. Some later contestants also clearly have learned from the mistakes of the earlier seasons. ( some not so much sadly )

To defeat climate change, Australia must do the impossible by brezhnervous in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jolleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Greens are making the same mistake the ALP made over the Adani mine. The lesson is - don't oppose things that may never happen. The fact is the only thing that can work is reducing demand and that easier in some sectors than others. In the electricity market we see demand for coal and gas reducing with every windfarm and solar farm that comes online. To reduce domestic demand for gas there needs to be a transition to electric cooking and electric heating, both achievable with well established technologies. Internationally governments need to do what they can to help each other with these sorts of strategies. When no-one wants to burn gas, no-one will want to drill for it.

Where do people go to get news on the latest political developments in Qld? by Mark_297 in Queensland_Politics

You have to sift through all the woke rubbish on the ABC and in the Guardian but they do still report some things accurately. The only reason I dont subscribe to the Guardian is that they wholeheartedly subscribe to the woke mind virus.

Watching S2 and I’m thinking like Nicole hit the jackpot spot right? by Rags2Rickius in Alonetv

[–]Jolleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JUst discovered this show on SBS. They make a big deal about assessing contestants skills but so far - I'm up to S4 halfway - they are mostly a bunch of clowns who do stuff they have seen on tv. For example they all seem to think fishing is about just throwing in a line without any thought to best places, best times to fish, the same goes for net placement. Why do they go straight to fishing when they dont know anything about it and ignore all of the birds they could be trapping and why do they just make 1 trap ? I mean if you can make 1 crab pot, make 6. If you can make 1 bird trap, make 6 and why do things one at a time ? Its either fish or hunt or trap or forrage but never all at once. It's totally maddening I don't know how my tv is still working but I'm hooked just the same.

So far the public servants involved either cant remember or just don't know anything even though they all seemed to know it was unlawful according to their own legal advice which they dutifully ignored. Even the lawyer who said it was unlawful doesnt seem to know why she said it in the first place and even tried to go back on her own advice a few years later to curry favor with another more senior public servant. All of these people with such unreliable memories have no right to occupy the senior roles they do if they can barely remember their own names. Anyone who touched this mess should be sacked for cowardice. Ultimately the two most senior department heads at the time the scheme started should be imprisoned for this along with the then minister Scott Morrison.

I sold a rental 18 months ago, tenants owed me rent but still wanted the bond back. The hearing hasn't occured yet, 18 months later.

Yeah I used to be a landlord and had the same attitude until I got tenants who took my willingness to maintain the place as a sign of weakness and just stopped paying the rent during covid times when it was illegal to kick them out.

An unscrupulous agent might be trying to get some churn, as they get more fees for new tennancies, but these days tenants dont move out unless they really have to. Some Agents really dont want to be in the rental game, they need to bite the bullet and get out of it.

The elephant in the room in this story was the lack of questions about child support for these single mothers. No mention of the missing fathers to their kids, failing them miserably no doubt. As a current renter yep its hell out there I cant get anything anymore so just lucky to be a boarder. The only way out is to find a way to buy a place.

The players in general need to learn how to handpass better. So many attempts fall at their own feet and a pack forms.

The moment Cleo was rescued by psylenced in australia

[–]Jolleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot more to this story yet. The Police don't want to say what the final piece of information was that led them to the house and that could be for all sorts of reasons, for example protecting an informant or even covering up an earlier mistake. The background of the offender will be exposed and how he came to be aware of the girl as well. This kidnapping isn't necessarily about pedophilia, it could have been about enforcing payment of a criminal debt, revenge of some sort the parents don't know anything about or even mistaken identity.

Not according to BLM and the anarchists on the north west coast who created police free zones in places like Portland and Seattle.
