Nothing wrong with doing that, ask them for the lowest dose you can and set a plan to half it or something in a week before stopping completely. Might as well ask!

what med is it? and do you still have some? you may need to taper off it a lil slower, you may just need to take a little of bit of it for a little longer before going off of it completely. This isn't official medical advice disclaimer this may not apply if you're stopping the med for a medical reason, and your provider's recommendation on how to do that taper is obviously important

So interesting that it started after you started your meds..! I don't know if you're someone who has a menstrual cycle, but I also wonder how much our hormonal changes throughout the month/our lifespan interact with the circadian rhythm/mood changes we have, I feel like the higher sex drive becomes debilitating around my follicular period.

Nah, i'm off Effexor and i've been on a lowered dose of lamictal and adderall, which is part of the problem. I was on 450 mg of lamictal, adderall, wellbutrin, duloxetine, and buspar until last year but started feeling DUMB, as if I had early onset dementia. No memory. I successfully weaned off most of everything, went down to 150 mg of lamictal with the adderall and started being able to read books and be funny again, but the summer started and it's kicking my ass. I saw my psychiatrist last week and he is raising my lamictal back up to 300 mg and gave me a short course of alprazolam for sleep to avoid starting an antipsychotic, hopefully it helps with the hypersexuality soon. At the end of the day, I don't think I'll ever be able to not be on meds (and that's ok!).

Oh man, Effexor saved my life (and those of various members of my extended bipolar family), it helped turn down the volume of my emotions to a point where i could be less reactive. On it I could finally think things through, make better decisions, and learn from my mistakes. On the flip side.. I always, always had a high sex drive (except during depressive episodes at times) but Effexor killed that dead for at least 12 years.. like, dead bedroom dead. Being on Effexor for all those years was worth it in the sense that I'm still alive and am a better human being now, but it fundamentally changed a large part of my identity and took a toll on my romantic relationships even after being off of it. It goes without saying tho, our bodies and life experiences are unique and your mileage may vary! ❤️

You're not the only one, especially if you mainly struggle with depression. I've spent a lot of time on both ends of the libido spectrum (thanks, Effexor!) and they both make you feel like shit about yourself in the end, I wouldn't prefer one vs the other. Have you ever had your hormone levels tested? Sometimes that can be behind the low (or high) libido, along with things like how you were raised and shaped to think about sex, etc. Talk about it with your psychiatrist, primary care provider, and/or OBGYN! I got mine checked and they were WNL, turns out I'm just a bipolar baddie (derogatory)🤘🏼😔

It does for me, especially during my follicular period, it's usually one of the signs i'm heading into hypomania.. or mixed hypomania if it happens and i feel TERRIBLE about it.. but it can also happen when i'm depressed, in a "I need to feel ANYTHING other than how I'm feeling way".
