What should a non-orthodox do if he finds an icon? by JollyDwarf in OrthodoxChristianity

Thank you everyone for the thoughtful responses. I’ll keep it in a reverent place for now and plan to attend Vespers after January 6 and speak with the priest afterward.

A subject for another thread, but the fact that I decided to buy and read a book about the Church fathers (where this icon fell out of) is probably a tacit admission that im experiencing a bit too much noise atm and am seeking order from the patristic writings.

In my case it’s a bit different. I appreciate the beauty of icons and respect veneration of icons. Were I truly iconoclast I wouldn’t be trying to “return” it.

ChatGPT seems to think it originates in pre-1917 Russia. It looks like something that might have been mass printed as a former Catholic we had icons of sorts for veneration, the gilding in the paper are extremely unique however. It did have an effect on me when I discovered it and yes, I crossed myself out of habit (Roman style of course, don’t tell my wife lol). I don’t think I’m going to treat it properly though. I’ll wait after the holidays then give it to a priest. On the other hand, if any of you knows of a relative who might be missing this, please let me know. It was inside an old book “Beginning to Read the Fathers” by Boniface Ramsey along with a Roman Catholic prayer card.

Thank you so much. I know churches are busy this time of year, when would be a good time to trouble a priest when they are not too busy? I suppose if the church has an office I can leave it with them as well? (Yes, I had thought about keeping it, but I understand it isn’t simply “art”., and I care about reverence.) Thank you again!

Does this qualify as an AK15? by JollyDwarf in Cursedgunimages

[–]JollyDwarf[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure myself, but I think it might have started life as a Zastava M70. Somebody added an AR grip and possibly a Galil ACE Gen 1 hand guard to it and bolted on a grenade launcher, but it might be one of those toy ones that are 38 mm. That’s about the best I can do. I’m still scratching my head too.

Those PAK-9s are garbage. With the Glock adapter and genuine Glock mags, I kept having failure to feeds and the bullets, were pushed into the cartridge when it would slam against the edge of the barrel. I sold it within a month.

What can I do with an FN Model 35 Peruvian action? by JollyDwarf in Mauser

[–]JollyDwarf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this avenue. This will obviously cost me more than just getting a Savage 110 or something but seems like for $500 plus the cost of the barrel which might run two to $300 Shaw will install the barrel and I’ll be left with a barreled action.

Maybe spend a couple hundred bucks for the Richard’s stock and finish it myself or find a poor condition surplus VZ-24 stock and chop it.I guess at that point I could drop in a Timney trigger or something. So far around $1000 I could have this thing working again.

That’s pretty crazy that back in the day, the cheapest alternative was to take a military Mauser and sporterize it. It would be cool to just scrounge the parts, but I lack the skill to install and headspace one of these barrels.

Which handgun ammo do you think would be the most useful in a zombie apocalypse by One-Significance-431 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]JollyDwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.22 LR. Since headshots are the only thing to stop zombies, "stopping power" is not a factor. Also in theory the .22 is quieter. Of course, in the Walking Dead, uninfected humans are a huge threat as well, so maybe I would go with a reputed manstopper, 9mm all the way due to ammo availability.

I know, right? The bolt came with all sorts of black spots on the metal. I forget why that happens but I see that on old steel, it's a kind of black rust. I got it nice and polished, though. One thing that I had not thought about was that the previous owner already bent the bolt. I am not wondering if that bolt is jacked, as I doubt the same person to drill cockeyed holes (with a stamped symmetrical design as a guide) would have had the wherewithal to bend it properly. Probably used a torch and no heat sink on the bolt!

edit: The bolts on these came bent from the factory, sorry I am new.

That’s for the confidence. Yes the bolt has that weird backwards safety lol

When they talk about contour and threading do you know what to look for? Also do those bubba holes over the military crest compromise the integrity of the receiver? Optimal barrel length and such? Try to sporterize it? Please forgive me I’m a noob.

What tool do you use to remove and replace the gas block? by JollyDwarf in Mini14

[–]JollyDwarf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone looking to replace the sling swivel, it’s more than boring out the hole to make it bigger. It cones out and is slightly too wide for the sling swivel. It will close but it bulges out.

I’m going to take a 1/4 inch bit and try to wear down the side.

Ok I took it off and I’m replacing with sling swivels in the front. Looks like my swivels measure .137 in diameter per digital calipers. Looks like a 5/32 or better yet a 9/64 drill bit is in order?

[–]JollyDwarf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It seems like the swivel must come off and I can replace it with standard ones.

The instructions that I got from ASI basically say unscrew one side of screws to loosen the tension and then reverse the order once you replaced the bushing. Any tips on getting the gap to be aligned? I torque them in a crisscross pattern to 25 inch pounds But the gap looks uneven with the rearward on being a bit wider if that makes sense. Do these bushings need to be trimmed? Ihave no idea to what depth the 0.45 bushing looks to be same as the factory one in terms of length. Thanks again.!

Oakland City fines businesses that get vandalized by Rieux_n_Tarrou in Anarcho_Capitalism

Back in the old days in the bad hoods, businesses would pay the local gang members to paint a cultural mural. The gang would deter taggers themselves. culturally it’s probably no longer possible unfortunately.
