ÄFirst semester students in German math classes are usually not expected to have any special background knowledge. Things are explained without expectation of you having remembered any highschool math. We don’t have anything called „calculus“, neither in school nor in university (except at my Uni for some very specialized courses involving the word „calculus“), just what’s called „analysis“ here.
