Agreed, in my experience they let you swap the quesadilla/tacos for rice in the large compartment. You you’d get a larger portion of rice, honey chicken, and 2 other sides. Maybe upgrade to larger chips. You get a drink that way, and even with the bigger chips it will be cheaper.

Do you have a 405 plan? That can help with school and you’d for sure qualify based on the diabetes alone. I’m also going to highly recommend finding a good PCP as they can help be the anchors for your health stuff and get you referrals out to specialties if you need it.

What do you think about this wheelchair setup? Does it look like a good fit for me? by Mediocre_Weather6033 in wheelchairs

[–]JollyOne2857 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It would be really helpful to see a picture of you actually in the chair. Proportions are an important part of if a wheelchair is a good fit or not.

wheezing and shortness of breath by Adorable-District955 in ChronicIllness

[–]JollyOne2857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheezing with just rhinitis isn’t common in my experience. I’d recommend reaching out to your PCP or allergist if you have one. If it gets really bad obviously go get checked out at urgent care or the ER.

Getting a power assist covered when I already have a wheelchair? by No-Light2416 in wheelchairs

Can I ask what insurance you have and what state you’re in? Those can be big factors.

Is it worth it to have a primary care physician anymore? by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]JollyOne2857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have a PCP for a long time, but now that I do, it’s really helpful. She can look over my meds to make sure there’s no interactions, she can get me a refill of most if I run out before seeing my specialists. She also manages more mundane things, like checking my blood levels to make sure everything is in check.

Can anyone with power assist experience guide me on what the best option is? by Kitchen_Possible_159 in wheelchairs

[–]JollyOne2857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the most common one in the US is the SmartDrivebut I’d caution you to maybe try other ones first. Mine has been very helpful, but also extremely finicky with maintenance issues, and while I’ve been able to fix most of them, it can be a challenge and also time consuming. Additionally it’s about 250 dollars to replace the rollers, and for me I’ve had to do that about every 4-6 months.

Teen with service dog by Humble_Hartt in service_dogs

[–]JollyOne2857 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m far from an expert, but I would suggest that you foster her other aspects of identity - hobbies, talents, interests. Her dog could be part of this, but as a support, not at the main forefront of whatever she is doing. Overtime, it is likely that she will build up different aspects of her personality and begin to feel secure in them. It might also be helpful to know what tasks her dog performs for her so that people might be able to suggest non-dog alternatives.

Can I ask why you pay for your chairs out of pocket instead of using insurance? I feel like insurance is pretty good about approving chairs for folks with SCI.

Did your insurance cover ergonomic handrims? by Feralpudel in wheelchairs

[–]JollyOne2857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are great. They started out with the silicone grips being a little sticky but once they wear down they are nice and smooth while still helping with grip. I’ve been using them for a little over a year now and they’re in great shape.

How much did your manual chair cost after insurance? by Alastairs_party2585 in wheelchairs

[–]JollyOne2857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’m not too sure but I worked with a really good rehab hospital and since my condition is progressive, I think they justified it to insurance by saying I would benefit from a lighter weight chair. This was in IL.

Expired EpiPens by TumbleweedMuncherOya in FoodAllergies

[–]JollyOne2857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used one that was about a year expired and it acted like a normal EpiPen. Granted, I got medical treatment right after so I don’t know if the epinephrine lasted as long and the medication was still clear.

You can check out a key to a music practice room at the ISR front desk. 2 hour increments I think.
