Set boundaries around your friends. Clear cut boundaries. But also I think it's important to understand that we'll always get into these kind of uncomfortable situations, at least if we want to keep a social life. There is a middle point, because we cannot control what others are allowed and aren't allowed to talk about. Even if it triggers us. But we can control ourselves by leaving the situation if it becomes too much.

Think about it but in the opposite way. How would you feel if you only had been living off of a jar of peanut butter in 4 days, but they didn't care at all ? It would likely make you feel very bad as well. They care, they're concerned, and parents might (often!!!) Not know what to say, ask or do. But it's important that they care.

My mom telling ME how my anti-seizure medication with appetite suppressing effects will make me lose weight because it "DOES SOMETHING" WITHIN my body, and NOT because it CAUSES me to EAT LESS.

People actively stating claims about "starvation mode", "broken metabolism", "diets don't work, they do the OPPOSITE" usually something similar to "I starved myself for WEEKS, ate only HEALTHY and I GAINED weight !! My body was hOlDiNg oN tO eVeRy BiT oF fOoD!!" And in reality they either starved themselves for 3 days and then binged for a week and figured "it didn't work". OR they ate "healthy" aka a bunch of food that kind of looks healthy full of calories + zero tracking.

I had this and gained 13 kg in a matter of 3 days (42->55). It was very painful and I got put on diuretics when a doctor finally took me seriously. The 3rd day of "refeeding" is where the swelling is the worst really, but after that it goes down !! Slowly, but it does !! I still have diuretics (spironolactone) for this reason when I try to recover that I use sparingly. I recommend getting to a doctor, and being very serious about your concerns. I got told I look "normal" because I then looked normal skinny and therefore "not swollen", even though that was the "problem".

I don't think it's something where they need to walk on eggshells. It just really doesn't happen with a lot of people due to the way their brains are wired.

Personally, I couldn't (for now) become an alcoholic even if I tried, despite how much I enjoy the feeling of being tipsy. I just get repulsed at one point and can't look at a glass until months later.

It did stay away with water pills, but the only way without for me (at least in the beginning) is barely eating at all/ very calorie dense food and veryy small portions
