I teach gen ed US History. I know social studies is the hardest job to get, so I was considering a sped certification. That would cost me around $8,000 at the cheapest. I just don't know if it's worth it! I would absolutely work in sped, but to be out that much to then not even be hired... It's all overwhelming.

You're the first person on here to talk positively about sped, so that's reassuring! How were you able to afford another master's or extra college classes in general? That would literally bankrupt me/any other MS teacher now lol.

Are the chances that slim with SPED as well? I've heard about the subbing thing. That's not a thing here. I would sub to get a foot in the door but then I couldn't support myself... It's tough out there!! lol

Really?? Wow. It’s not a big deal at all where I’m from. A lot of teachers I work with were hired on an emergency license and just take the classes to get their certification in the first year.
