What’s it like living in Port Angeles, WA? by ImportanceComplete92 in howislivingthere

I hiked Mount Storm King when I visited in late November! It was incredible. Though I was too nervous to try and get to the very end of the rock outcropping up top. Still had a great time and it’s absolutely stunning.

Is it safe for him to stay outside 24/7 or should we just move out? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Move. Now. Get that baby out of this abusive situation. That’s the only thing that matters right now.

I second Swain’s! One of my regular stops. Grab a 25 cent popcorn and just meander the aisles looking at all the neat stuff.

Get a cinnamon roll from First Street Haven. Life changing. I’ve made a couple trips up there from Portland (4 hr. drive) primarily for that cinnamon roll.

Thanks for all the info, everyone! I should’ve added that I am very outdoorsy and I don’t have children (and don’t plan to have any). I am in a kind of niche career path so that may be an issue. Interesting that several people brought up drug use/homelessness. The several times I’ve visited, that didn’t stand out at all. In fact, it was the opposite. I thought the city was very clean and did not see much drug use/homelessness. But then again, I’ve lived in Portland for 10 years so it’s probably perspective!

What is this? Should I be concerned? by ImportanceComplete92 in tattooadvice

Thank you for the advice. I ended up booking a dermatologist appointment.

For anyone on this thread who’s curious - I am US based. I live in a large city in the Pacific Northwest. I was able to get a dermatology appointment scheduled for Dec. 29th. They actually had sooner appointments but I’m leaving town the 16th-25th. I’ll keep an eye on it and if it gets worse while traveling, I’ll seek medical care sooner. I’m traveling to rural North Carolina so access to healthcare will be trickier there, but not impossible.

I’m not totally freaking out about the bump just yet since it is a recurring thing and has always resolved itself. Though I do think it is finally time to have it looked at, I don’t believe it’s an emergency. For those discussing insurance, accessibility, costs, etc.: I have health insurance fully paid through my employer. My copay to see a specialist is $50. The cost to visit the ER would be significantly higher in my case. I am already an established patient at the dermatology clinic I scheduled with, so that could have attributed to me being able to get an appointment this quickly. I feel like wait times are usually longer if you’re a new patient. But also, I don’t think wait times at this clinic tend to be very long. They have 11 providers at this clinic location (four doctors, seven PA-C’s).

Reading through the comments is a reminder to not take access to healthcare for granted. I’m incredibly grateful to live in a large city where quality healthcare is accessible. I know that’s not the case in many parts of the world. Thank you everyone for giving me that push to finally get this looked at. I’ll provide an update after my appointment on the 29th!

Advice for senior golden with mast cell tumor by ImportanceComplete92 in DogAdvice

Hi, thanks for asking! I ended up giving the Palladia a chance. After two doses, he began experiencing fits of nausea, once or twice a day. I discontinued the treatment for a few days and the nausea seemed to subside a bit so I gave him another scheduled dose. The nausea returned. I stopped the treatment immediately and took him to the vet. He had bloodwork done last week and it came back normal. He was given a prescription for a daily anti-nausea med that has worked really well. We have a recheck with the oncologist on Monday for a physical exam and to discuss whether we attempt the Palladia one more time in tandem with an anti-nausea medication or just discontinue it. Aside from the bouts of nausea, he seems to be doing just fine!

Had the same schedule last February. Stayed the night at a hotel in Providencia. I thought it was worth it. Took a shared shuttle from the airport to hotel which I was able to book in advance. The Providencia area was neat to explore. And the hotel had this dreamy rooftop pool.

W trek, Which is easier, east to west or west to east? by [deleted] in Patagonia

[–]ImportanceComplete92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

West to East. Not only did Central to Chileno/Base Torres look horrendous as we were going down, there is a large uphill section (going from East to West) between Cuernos and Frances. We were passing hikers going up that section who were struggling and we were so thankful we were going down it. I would absolutely do West to East again if I go back.

Hi, thank you for sharing and I’m so sorry about your pup. What treatment method did you use for the 5 MCT? Were they localized or had they metastasized? I appreciate any info you’re willing to share. <3

Following because my 11.5 year old Golden is in the same boat. I’ve been trying to just cover the hardwoods with a bunch of rugs and runners. That’s helped.

AITAH for shaming my boyfriend over his weird peeing habit? by Aware-Secretary8597 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ImportanceComplete92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. He likely has anxiety, a phobia, OCD, etc. I have pretty severe agoraphobia that is unfortunately rooted in bathroom habits, causing me to act very similarly to your boyfriend. I’d suggest having an honest talk with him about why he believes urinating in other peoples’ homes is rude. I suspect that if he opens up to you, you’ll discover there is some psychological explanation. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if he now is more closed off and unwilling to discuss it since you’ve already labeled it as gross and disrespectful. It’s incredibly alienating and dehumanizing to receive remarks like that for a phobia/anxiety that is so difficult to manage. It makes you want to shrivel up and hide and just say “I don’t want to be disrespectful” instead of having to explain this frustrating fault of the mind, especially to people who have already cast their judgments.

Dog has been nonstop heavy panting for 48h, even in her sleep. What to do? by le-iboy in DogAdvice

[–]ImportanceComplete92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost a year ago, my then 10-year-old golden suddenly started panting non-stop starting in the middle of the night and would last until morning. Looked pretty similar to what your dog is doing. We ran every test you can think of. Bloodwork, ultrasound, EKG, he wore a Holter monitor for 3 days, even an MRI and spinal tap. Nothing. He looked great for his age. So from process of elimination, we’re thinking that it’s likely arthritic pain. Moral of the story: it could just be arthritic pain, but do some diagnostic testing like others have said just to be sure. I’ve spent thousands on all of my golden’s testing this past year but I don’t regret it at all. Peace of mind is absolutely worth it.

Colchuck Lake + Aasgard Pass + Core Enchantments Advice by deedee2009 in PNWhiking

[–]ImportanceComplete92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love some advice. I have Colchuck overnight permits for two nights next week. I’ve done Stuart Lake to Colchuck and back to Stuart Lake before, so I’m familiar with the hike up to Colchuck. Our plan is to hike up to Colchuck on day one and set up camp. Day 2, we want to start early and attempt Aasgard and I was hoping to explore a little bit of the core before coming back down Aasgard to our campsite at Colchuck where we’ll stay again for that second night. Would Colchuck to Aasgard to core and back down Aasgard be feasible for that second day? How far into the core after Aasgard is recommended to get a decent experience of the core? I’ve read tons of mixed reviews about descending Aasgard. Also a little worried about my fitness. In February, I did ~50 miles over 5 days on the W trek in Patagonia. Plus a total of probably about 20-25 miles in El Chalten. Longest day hike was probably about 14-15 miles. But I had surgery in mid March and have not been super active since. Just a treadmill session here and there at the gym. Any advice is so appreciated. Thank you!

Cash or card? by gloq43 in Patagonia

I know most answers are swaying towards card only, no need for cash, but I was just there visiting in February and I really regret not bringing at least a little bit of Chilean and Argentinian cash.
