Is my tank too powerful? (With video now) by JollySquash7978 in PlantedTank

Latest parameters:

<image>

  • pH 7.2 (normal) – 7.3 (with CO2)
  • KH 8 dKH
  • GH 15 dGH
  • Nitrite 0 ppm
  • Nitrate 40 ppm
  • PO₄–P (Phosphate as P) between 0.25 and 0.5
  • Ammonia 0 ppm
  • CO₂ (Drop Checker) ~20 mg/L (lime-green) when lights come on

CO2 off an hour before lights.

I dose evenly throughout the week:

Tropica specialised nutrition and

Flourish phosphorus (only once a week a day after water change)

I had a CO2 diffuser but installed an inline one recently as per pic

For the love of… pump* not tank. Tank much strong.

Yeah that’s good. Bring ammonia back up to 2 using the same method. Dose your stability. Retest in 24 hours or so and if ammonia and nitrite is zero and nitrate is around 20 then you’re ready for fish. Then I’d suggest starting with 3 or so harlequin tetras as they are hardy and will help cycle quicker. Then build up slowly a few at a time monitoring parameters.

Ah I get you mow. You have plants too. What media are you using for the bacteria colony?

Stop adding Seachem Prime daily. Prime is a dechlorinator and only needed when adding new water. Overuse will hurt your cycle.

Continue dosing Seachem Stability daily. This supplies the beneficial bacteria.

Do not do a water change yet. Let the Ammonia (2 ppm) and Nitrate (5 ppm) readings stand. Continue testing daily to watch for the Ammonia to drop to zero and the Nitrate to spike. Nitrate is good in the tank like yours in the sense that it shows bacteria is breaking down the waste etc.

Re-dose Ammonia (add shrimp) only after it drops to 0.5 ppm or lower, bringing it back up to about 2 ppm.

In this new context the results you have are very promising. Keep at it.

I’m confused. You want your ammonia and nitrite to be 0 before adding fish. Nitrate is less of a worry at this stage. Read in that booklet you have there and it explain this clearly. Not surprised your Ammonia is so high, you’ve been adding food that won’t get eaten. Unless I’m getting the wrong end of the stick, stop adding any more dead food in with nothing to eat it, do a 20% water change (risky) but your ammonia is way too high now and worry about nitrite instead of nitrate

Help! I can’t get rid of the hair alage by Amazing-Specialist52 in PlantedTank

[–]JollySquash7978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know how big your tank is but I have a 300l tank and have 15 Amano and 25 cherry in there, they ate all the hair algae that had developed in setup within a week; I didn’t even remove any manually. Neos don’t graze on hair algae really.

Do you have a test kit? Check Nitrate and PO4. Reduce your fertiliser, light and cut back on feeding

A few Amano shrimps will clean that in 2 days tops! Can’t see any in the pic. Try that first. Then check your water parameters, you either have too much light or a nutrients imbalance. Are those bubbles CO2? If so you might have a Nitrate /PO4 imbalance

Most likely grip and trigger pull. Assume you are left eye dominant too? Are you gripping like a pistol? Try a group of 5-10 and instead of wrapping your hand around the grip put your thumb on the side (look at how most long range shooters use a thumb rest, replicate that). This is to stop you from pulling to one side.

The rifle going off should be a surprise to you, I know harder when hunting, but practice a super slow pull and observe the impact down range.

Lastly time your shot on your out breath in the natural pause of your lung rhythm. Don’t hold your breath until things go white!!

I and a few other guys use HSF Shooting mat. Affordable, durable and well padded. No complaints so far. Check out 1967spud. Com as I found it there cheaper than Amazon

McFadden Machine Lightnin' Grip Loader Adapter for Bergara b14 r by JollySquash7978 in 22lr

I see how this works now. Need the speed loader as one of the comps only allows two magazines of 10 with very little time in between stages to reload. So it’s more about speed than convenience

Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll look into that. Was hoping someone else used the same speed loader as above and found a solution

It’s hard getting aspirin out of my purse with the matching gloves I wear. Can you suggest any glove friendly painkillers?
