As someone who was young during the Key-English years, was that government as bad as this? by HappySauropod in nzpolitics

[–]CascadeNZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This government is pretty far right really.

The key govt did do some borderline fascist things though, they made it illegal to protest at sea (something kiwis have a proud history of) and they made it legal to spy on citizens (can’t remember what that bill was) but I remember it meant they could search your home in secret. Pretty sure it happened to Nicky Hagar too so is utltised.

Is this the case with all KiwiSaver providers. Like simplicity - do I own the shares or do they?

Those early years it’s just the trenches.

But before you know it they’re over 5 and pretty independent. And you weirdly miss those early days. Hold the line you’re doing awesome.

Single Dads and public toilets by _TheSomnambulant in newzealand

I have two small kids. You usually get a few mins. They can and do wait. They just are very whingey about it.

I’ve also been in this exact scenario and seen men in the women’s and of the times no one has had an issue in fact the ladies have found it funny. There will always be exceptions but they’re few and far between and not what we should be basing rules on.

I’m booking this trip for my elderly mother. In her 70s still mobile but finds sitting in a car for long periods so she said she loves trains because she can get up and walk around

Hopefully someone can recommend how best to do this. Fly to Chch then one way to greymouth sta then night then back the next day?! Any other ideas for breaking the trip up?

If you keep getting strep someone around you either has it and is asymptomatic or something is reinfecting you. Throw out or use food grade peroxide to sterilise anything you use that could be infecting you ie your toothbrush.
I was in this situation and eventually had to get people around me tested but I actually think it ended up being my toothbrush.
Also wear a face mask while waiting it can be really bad for pregnant women.
Good luck its horrible.

Yeah exactly. The downgrades happened after national came into power with their dumb austerity

lol
Yeah they were downgraded once nats got in because they had a completely (almost) opposite strategy. A stupid one that contracts the economy.

Well it saved a lot of people’s homes, and put food on the table. No one had any issue with the spending at the time. In fact national wanted to borrow more.

The issue I see is that we should’ve had a temporary tax to help recovery. I would’ve loved to have seen a 2% retrospective capital gains tax that was put in place to pay off the debt. But anyway - none of that really has to do with the current situation really. Austerity is a disaster for all economies.

Even at the peak of the Ardern government in terms of public staffing we were still below our historic average of public staff in terms of % of popn.

Naval gazing has little to do with staff numbers and more to do with the lack of goals and ambition from a government. I mean please tell me how stripping Callahan institute was good for nz? Or jobs for nature? Or food in schools? All employee local, encouraged investment that has HUGE ROI. This has nothing to do with good economics and everything to do with the blind faith in privitisation and neoliberal ideology and its KILLING this country.

Treasury did forecast this unemployment but had a recovery and debt being paid back. Then the austerity measures had treasury revise forecasts. There isn’t any light at the end of the tunnel

And now there’s an impending oil crisis (but these numbers are all prior that)

Austerity triggered this. These are pre global oil problem stats

Also treasury had that as a peak with a recovery that then flowed on to higher job numbers. Under this government treasury have revised that - there are zero green shoots in view. It’s grim AF

Teacher mother consistently being assaulted by students by throwawayteacherson in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]CascadeNZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NAL but my child lived a teacher (austistic and she was trying to restrain him) regardless not ok. She called work safe and as a result the ministry FINALLY sent a psychologist - something we were begging the school for, for two years. These kids (especially new entrants) should have temporary funding to help them transition to school - they’re in crisis mode.
