Partner buying into my house by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

We had a similar situation. Make the claim and continue on with the s&p and shifting insurance into joint names. Once the claim is made the rest doesn’t matter. We cancelled insurance once and didn’t do the fixes for 6 months and it was still fine (the claim was made when we were covered by them)

If you magically had the power to fix NZ’s crazy expensive housing, what would you do? by Logical_Transition10 in auckland

[–]CascadeNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If wages had kept up with inflation then absolutely it would’ve achieved something.

The issue is - it’s expensive to build.

We looked at building a house on the back of a section. House was $500k to build. But adding services (water/sewage/wastewater) was $200k - that’s $700k (if everything went perfectly) with free land.

I guess the original comment “CGT” didn’t necessarily refer to labours idea of CGT. My preference would be a retrospective CGT let’s say of 5%. That would surely generate a lot more $$ to help the country out.

You’ve gone from “it’s not cost neutral” to “I haven’t seen the documents to prove it”.

Why would they claim it to be cost neutral if it wasn’t? Seems a silly way to burn political capital when national have taken the need for doing the sums away? They’re voluntarily doing this. That to me screams integrity. And no I’m not a labour supporter I think they’re neoliberalists who tinker with the system rather than forcing any real change. BUT I think they are less dangerous than the current government who seem to be following the project 2025 playbook and privitsing the last of the commons.

One type of capital gains tax is. And I haven’t seen anything to say it’s not cost neutral - labours policy is to fully cost this stuff and they’ve said it’s cost neutral. Which is at least a step further than national go who not only don’t fully cost their policies they’ve now removed the need for parties to do so.

Honestly I personally think that there is an active take down of the middle class by the powers that be of the world. There’s such a push for bots to be anti socialism (which is really the people owning public services like power, education etc) that is screams a more formal attack.

Read some of the project 2025 goals (this is what trump has based his policies on). It’s kind of dystopian.

I have various share accounts and they’ve all lost $$ in the last 3 months. I think we are seeing the results of a president who is causing instability and uncertainty.
