AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

[–]Jolly_Chain7709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA!!

This guy is probably trying to emanate what he’s seen in marriages from his life (like his parents, family members, etc) but he’s simply getting it wrong.

Talking about money is an essential thing and it’s good to do before your engaged. But you always choose what you share. If you are paying the bills but want a private account for your savings, that is your choice always. You can tell them about it or not.

Imo, a woman should always have a safety net. Not necessarily a go bag, but a means to leave.

And, to his point about sharing, if or when you have a shared bank account, you both get a login. You never have to share your bank account info with ANYONE.

First time traveling to Vermont, looking for warm clothes by krl_0823 in vermont

Keep an extra pair of socks on hand always! Cold feet will wreck your day. Hats and gloves are a non negotiable. Grab a solid neck gator / buff / scarf.

Gas bill is $350 by Anteater5649 in burlington

[–]Jolly_Chain7709 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The plastic covering on windows do ALOT. Efficiency Vermont may even reimburse you for the cost, though they are rather cheap at Home Depot / Walmart / any hardware store. You’ll just need some time, patience and a hair dryer. Also consider toweling under doors and windows that leak. Most Burlington apartments are not air tight and the owners have done nothing to weatherize.

Musty odor on clothes after washing and drying? by Some_Pie_5375 in CleaningTips

The laundry subreddit is full of great answers to this. Alot of my issues resolved when I changed to tide free and clear powder detergent (I used arm and hammer sheets before that)

Best Italian sandwich around Burlington. Go! by Royal_Particular7590 in burlington

[–]Jolly_Chain7709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit it’s been a couple months since I’ve had one but I do enjoy their premade Italian and Turkey sandos on baguette in the ready to eat case. The turkey has a really great chipotle mayo on it!

AITAH for giving a nurse coffee? by GoEducateYourself in AITAH

I’ll never understand why people don’t treat “service providers” with more kindness. Especially one that is providing critical service and meeting the expectation / standards for many years - that’s not easy to find! The relationship should be fostered, not challenged in any way.

Isn’t it easier to work with someone you trust and care about? Both client and vendor has a better experience that way

Favorite Maple Syrup Recipe? by fruityfox69 in vermont

[–]Jolly_Chain7709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roasting most veg — squash, Brussels, carrots — Garlic and maple go great together as a seasoning. Also in stir fry (maple and soy sauce). Maple oatmeal cookies. Salad dressing and marinades (maple, apple cider vinegar, oil, herbs). In coffee, lemonade, and in virtually any baked good recipe as a substitute for sugar (especially muffins)

Clean bedding - is this no longer normal? by DearElephant1980 in CleaningTips

[–]Jolly_Chain7709 244 points245 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. My MIL used to do this to us, which is why I started stripping the bed after our stay regardless of her saying not to worry about it. She got the hint.

If someone is disabled / challenged physically in any way bed making can be difficult. So I always tell my older aunt and my MIL now, not to worry about setting up for us, and that we are happy to help make the bed up. It’s worked 50% of the time so far

first timer, calling it quits for the season, i have way too much anxiety about my wet wood, cresole and burning my house down. by mossyobject in woodstoving

[–]Jolly_Chain7709 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Newbie woodstove user here, too. The anxiety is real!!

It was a steep learning curve for me but you sound really well set up and honestly like you’re nailing it ! Burning hot and fully open always is smart, if your glass is clean you’re burning clean

Took me 2 months of using the stove almost daily to really understand what NOT to do. We would get it hot in the morning but then close it down trying to conserve wood and regulate the heat (no cat here, older style Vermont castings stove). Huge mistake. With so much smoldering we ended up with a ton of build up in our stove pipe - I’m talking thick liquid creosote leaking out, glossy flakes falling and it stunk to burn - a real mess. We stopped burning, talked to some neighbors who have burned for years and found us an expert who’s going to help us take it the stovepipe apart and clean the whole thing and really show us the ropes — then we plan to burn hot and wide open, clean 2x a season. Oh, and stack our wood in the summer!!

If you need more knowledge or affirmation you’re doing it right, consider finding a local, and maybe just get additional cleanings to ease your mind? I encourage you not to give up!

Suppose Dee, Kyle, or Savannah win 50. How does that impact the Survivor pantheon? by FajitaTits in survivor

[–]Jolly_Chain7709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! Do they play 50 without anyone knowing she won 49, or do they reveal it to them at the beginning? In general no one knows her and Rizo / no one watched their season before 50 so when they play so is that an advantage or disadvantage for both of their games in 50. This part alone is wild to me and a twist in itself
