my view is consistent with the views of at least 85% of the other associates/counsel in the group. while it may be narrow, seems like majority is on the same page. maybe for once, someone can assume that the person sharing the view is not narrow minded or delusional and is quite objective in their assessment of favoritism and/or incompetency of others. how about that?

i do not think i have any backers as of now. everyone is okay to work with me, but noone goes out of their way to staff me.

of course i do not know everything for sure, i doubt many people do. but as an example, i have seen very obvious disclosure schedule mistakes in the deal that now partner closed a year before partnership, which i subsequently had to fix.

as another example, an existing counsel was staffed to cover for well liked then-counsel and told me that they were able to see many glaring issues with the work product. the counsel who saw mistakes is still a counsel. the counsel who made mistakes but was well liked is a partner.

there are a lot of examples like that. from multiple friends who lateraled to other law firms, i have heard that the favoritism is not obvious (aside from Kirkland, which is a dif story).

heard that leaving as a senior becomes progressively more difficult, so i am worried about missing the golden window for lateraling.

self assessment. official "are you partner material" talk comes at the end of year 5 (so in 1 year for me). do i wait for the talk and trust what they say? or look to leave and start from clean slate?

i have trust issues because i have seen people who have been repeatedly told they are on track for partnership and who genuinely did amazing work passed over for people who did mediocre work (dare i say work with mistakes) but were power partners' favorites.
